Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An expensive day out, and that was just to get in the gate. Where's all the fun stuff? Only a couple of slides and a movie pool which you can hardly see the screen due to the sun glare. The place is in serious need of maintenance and paint. Not in a hurry to go back.

Not the cheapest with a $30 p.p entree fee, which would be fine as the spa/pool has a lot to offer. But the whole experience was let down by the condition the pool and the park is in. The movie pool and the hot pools where not to bad, with just a few rusty and broken bits, and you can tell they are younger then the rest if the park. Plenty of water sildes, but in the evening time dangerous as there is barely any lighting.
The walkways between the pools are horrible, painful to walk bare feet, with cracks the cut leave you with injuries.
The main pools, have hardly any painting left, you can see some blue spots on the sides but thats it, so the surface of the pool floor is rough.
The "lazy river" is the worst, our 3 year old, cut her toes open by just getting in contact with the floor. Sure this attraction should be closed until its serviced. Very friendly staff member helped to tape up her foot.
Overall, it could be great if the owner would spend money on the maintainance and service of his investment.

We came here for a 10th birthday party and were disgusted. Like the review before this, we found rusted bolts, slimy pathways, broken tikes, disinterested staff.... Unfortunately I'm not surprised that thee have been drownings there this summer... It's such a shame that what was once great has been left to degrade to such a state. The once-awesome slides are now closed - and in the words of one of the staff "all rusted out" and what are left are disappointing to everyone. The worst part was that our son went up with two small cuts. One on his lip,one on his finger. Both have now become so infected that he required medical care and serious antibiotics. I'm seriously not happy. This place ruined his 10th birthday.

Family visit in early February. Pools and surrounds appear poorly maintained and very tired - paint has come off all the pools and surrounds and broken concrete etc hasn't been repaired. Walking paths have sharp stones - very hard on feet which were still sore the next day - they have some rubber mats in places but not enough. Wooden steps left splinters in feet. Some showers out of action in women's bathrooms meant long queues even on a quiet day. Kids enjoyed the waterslides though. Not good enough when charging $25 per adult.

Passable as a small water park. Friendly helpful staff but seriously expensive for what you get. Not at the standard at what you would expect from a true Auckland facility.

We brought the family for a visit to Orewa and then the iconic waiwera hot pools, what a huge mistake! For the price we paid (that we found extravagant compared to all other pools in Auckland) we encountered rude admissions staff, lifegaurds using their phones instead of watching the pools, a movie pool that you could hardly see, slides closed, a lack lustre lazy river (if thats what you can call it) and pools in dire need of some attention. Sorry Waiwera but the place is very run down to that of its hay day. I'm truely surprised anyone uses this place at the prices they charge!

A great place to sit back and relax while soaking up the hot pools, sitting back in the pool watching the movie and over all just a great place to relax and unwind

At $26 I expected more. The pools were a great temperature and lovely and relaxing, but I couldn't see past the rust on the walls, the overcrowded pools, the agony on my feet with the stony, gravel ground, the out-dated pools, the closed 'black hole' slide which as we were told is now 'like a cheese grater'. I expect a re-furb to be happening soon as it looks like its not been done since it was made in the 80s I guess. Just tired and dated.

My parents and I were on holiday visiting the North Island from Australia and decided to visit the hot pools. It wasn't quite what I was expecting from the name, I guess I pictured more of a day spa than a family friendly public swimming pool, but we all went with it anyway. Entry prices were very reasonable for a tourist attraction and when I went to enter I lucked out in that I was given a coupon by another attendee and got in for $15 instead of $26. So all up my parents and I paid $35, a lot cheaper than any of the other attractions we visited.

The hot pools were wonderful. I haven't come across a place like this in Australia and it was lovely. My mum particularly enjoyed it as she loves swimming. I can see that it is a little run down, like a lot of public swimming pools, but the actual pools are the stars and everything else is just aesthetics.

I suffer from dry skin and swimming always ends in having to shower and moisturize immediately after as my skin gets taught and irritated. My experience at these mineral pools was that I wasn't feeling irritated and I was able to leave my shower till later on. My skin actually felt BETTER after a swim! I was shocked. Also the chlorine was not a pungent smell in the air like most Public pools, which was a pleasant change. All in all I would return and I would recommend it to others. Wish I had somewhere similar to visit in Aus!

We use to come to waiwera years ago, but were really disappointed on the dated facilities. If it's going to be crap, then it needs to be cheaper. They need to review their pricing.
