Completed by the French in 1710 and taken over by the British in 1763 following the French and Indian War (Seven Years War) fought for control of territory in the New World. It was also the site of the end of the Grenada Revolution in 1983. Fort George offers commanding views of the town, harbor and the surrounding coast. It is a modestly strenuous hike to get up here. It is worth visiting for the views alone. However, I deducted a point as the views are a 5 but the way the facility is managed is a 2. The Fort is getting renovated and most of it wasn't open for touring. Only a couple observation points were accessible. However, this did not stop them from still charging an entrance fee without informing me about the closures. When I politely requested by money back after returning to the entrance, I was rudely disregarded.

Fort George was built ca. 1706. The fort was under renovation, so we could only see a little bit of it. Atop the fort, the former Prime Minister Maurice Bishop and 10 of his associates were executed by orders of Bishop's deputy prime minister in 1983. A few days later the U.S. invaded Grenada and restored democracy. You can get a glimpse of the fort and admire the views. I wish there was more to see here.

Fort George is a commanding fortress above the island's capital. It stands on a hill between the sea (today's cruise port) and the inner harbor. It's a French built fort dating back to 18 century.
The climb to it is very steep and there's an entrance fee of 2$ pp. The inner courtyard seems pretty neglected so I deduct one star. The upper ramparts with cannons offer great views of the cruise port and open sea. Walk to the other side and you'll have terrific views of St. George's Carenage with the inner harbor.

It was an interesting visit and informative around the history. Not very well maintained although our guide told us they are about to start a big maintenance project. Tip your guide well. They have a family to support and depend on tips.

This fort does not compare well with For Frederick. It does have a nice view of the harbor, but doesn't have the same elevation. There was no entrance fee nor any guide service available during our visit.

There are some cannons left on the walls, but the inner courtyard is dilapidated and trashy. This is surprising given the role in recent Grenada history. A small plaque informs of the massacre of the PM Maurice Bishop and some 14 others that took place here in 1983.

We chanced upon a young man giving a free tour (of course we tipped) around this fort. To see everything and hear tidbits of history was fantastic. Only the walk up the hill is a downside.

If an attraction like this is going to charge an entrance fee to patrons, they should at least clean out the trash in the main areas that people want to see. There was old broken furniture with boxes and trash stuffed in the basketball court area that looks like it has been there rotting for a long time. It would probably take a couple of people a few hours to clean the junk out of there. There isn't much to see to begin with, so I found this very disappointing. The view is nice and there is historical significance to the site, but it needs attention.

So I finally got to visit Fort George while on vacation after hearing stories from my parents about their experiences during the revolution. The charge is $2 per person and the walk up the hill is not and easy one haha, so dress comfortable and have proper walking shoes on. The view from the top of the fort is breathtaking, you get the see the view of the caranage, beaches and the the pretty colorful houses.

There was not much to see; however, it is a great place to get views. There is no formal entry. We parked at the police station after inquiring. There are a few cannons and a marker noting where former Prime Minister Bishop Maurice was executed.

The fort is strategically situated on a prominent point above the harbour so you are guaranteed a great view of the town.
Inside the fort there is limited signage which should be improved but tours are available to learn the rich history. It’s definitely worth a view
