This review is coming from a group of teenage girls who have been on the camp from 18th of April - 23rd April 2021. We would like to make it clear that the camp itself was not the problem but in-fact Che (the boss) has been highly unprofessional and perverted towards us therefore making us very uncomfortable. Che constantly makes inappropriate comments about and directed to us teen girls about our bodies and unnecessary remarks about what we are doing. We have noticed that he takes advantage of the young surf instructors and constantly put them in difficult situations, through manipulation. He takes photos of girls starting around the ages of 11 up to the instructors on his PERSONAL phone- he zooms in on the girls butts and breasts, when in bikinis. This scares us mainly because it’s his personal phone not a camera used for the company. He took photos of us getting changed in and out of our wetsuits. He encouraged the girls to swim in his spa at his his own house and started taking photos once again on his personal phone saying they would go on the company Instagram page but only one was posted when several were taken. A few of the girls in our group could not participate in the competition on the last day due to their periods but Che stated that this was “disgusting” and “unnatural” although it is a completely normal thing. He told two of the girls on their periods that they “need to go into the water to cleanse yourself” these comments were completely unnecessary and don’t need to be said to campers. This is disappointing because all the young boys idolise him and look up to him whilst he sets an awful example. Despite Che and his awful behaviour we all thoroughly enjoyed the camp. The instructors were amazing and super supportive and made this camp what it was. Most of us have never surfed before and on the competition day we all stood up, caught great waves and now love surfing due to the incredible instructors such as - Ollie, Tatum and Lucy, to name a few. The camp instructors are some of the most amazing people we have ever met especially Kiana, Ophe and Tiger. The camp instructors helped us whenever we needed anything, put an insane amount of effort into the weeklong camp and took it upon themselves to make it the best it could be. We are all intending to go to the January camp in 2022 but will try to avoid Che unless something is done in the meantime.

I'd like to single out Ollie who was a great coach, demonstrating moves that we can only hope to emulate, but he can isolate your areas to work on, and does everything with a huge smile on his face. Hannah and Nathan were also amazing. I had two group lessons. The first with 19 people, which left me a bit frustrated though I had learned some basics. The second, there were just two of us, at Mangawhai, and we had such a great time in messy surf; I left feeling totally elated. I'd highly recommend Ollie as a coach and the whole operation which is very professional.

Dear Che and the AMAZING TEAM. I want to say an almighty thank you. This four days have been so special for us - we have watched our girl grow in confidence and resilience. For someone who is locked into a different world to most of us, who processes life so unusually, the challenges you set pushed her to her limits beautifully and she has blossomed. I never thought that she'd ever want to even have a go - let alone ride a wave!!! Everyday we expected her to say 'I'm not going back' You guys are inspirational leaders - your passion and love for the water is infectious. She'll be back - weekly lessons coming up 😂
