Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Located between Bordeira Beach, which in my opinion is the best beach in Europe and Amado Beach which is also a great beach is the clifftop walks and walkways of Pontal da Carrapateira.
Such a beautiful place, bleak but beautiful. Not many places to eat so if you want to walk between the two start at Bordeira beach and walk towards Amado beach which has a couple of basic places to eat. Don't let that put you off, its a great place to walk, drive slowly or cycle.

Shortly after my wife and I visited this awesome spot, I learned that it was a contender for recognition as one of the SEVEN WONDERS OF THE NATURAL WORLD. I am not surprised. We have seen two contenders of the same type ----- The Cliffs of Mohar on Ireland's West Coast, and the Camera da Lobos on the coast of Madeira. For sheer grandeur and the terrifying beauty of its shape and location, this beats them both. It epitomizes the eternal clash of two natural elements ---- Earth and Water---- and turns the contest into an eternal bullfight where the blood that is continually spilled is the creamy white foam of the waves rushing to their destruction by the piercing sword with which this enormous rocky mammal defends his whole being, although judging by the erosive contours of the cliffs, time is on the side of the bulls. The roar of the wind is the applause of the mob, and the very shape of the area is that of an arena.
Come and be entertained for free, although you will never know the final score. There are good toilet and eating facilities, and so far as natural wonders go, the cleverly constructed protective railing give you a grandstand view.

Going off peak and in a relatively remote location there were still a number of people around. Not surprised at all because the walks around here are stunning especially seeing the huge waves coming ashore. Despite facilities available being minimal (there is some parking) the amazing scenery made this a visit to remember. The paths are fairly flat and wide and extensive boardwalks are available so not too bad for pushchairs (some with a few steps).

You can't go wrong coming out to here - this would be worth a trip out here by itself. There are miles of breathtaking coastline before & after this Point. I'd recommend starting on the road at one end coming in before the Point and driving it until it exits at the other end (this works no matter whether you start on the South or North end). There are a lot of turnouts and either trails or boardwalks out to the coast edge. A large part of the road is dirt - this was easily traversable with our Fiat 500 and should be ok for most RVs.

If you're looking for a beach that's reminiscent of the Great Ocean Road in southern Victoria, this would be it. With devastating high cliffs to the west and golden sandy beaches to the east, and a quiet tributary merrily burbling its way to the waterline, this is as close as I've seen to what's typically thought of as an Australian beach - in Europe. There's plenty of parking, a boardwalk down to the cliffs and onto the beach, pack some snacks and a beach blanket, you won't want to leave!

Amazing beach. Very good clifftop walks. Unspoiled and uncrowded. Quite a steep pathway down to beach from car park, but boarded and with handrails. Well worth the effort.

Carrapateira is the place to visit by surfers and hikers. An amazing coast to walk along and giant waves.

2 beaches, stunning landscape at the cliff. Drive from the main beach south of Carrapateira over the road and find an excellent sea-view restaurant. continue the road to catch the view points at the cliffs.

We were staying near Carvoeiro, but made use of the hired car to travel here (took about an hour). Great walk. If starting northbound, turn right up the hill and away from the village square where the shops and snack bars are, then turn left on the road where you will see a rudimentary windmill up on your right. After walking a little distance, take the sandy track off to the right heading for Bordeira beach. The path ends at a lovely little lagoon. We took shoes off, walked through the lagoon, over the dunes and onto the beach. It really is beautiful. Big waves, freezing sea. Drinks etc. available on the beach. If continuing the Carrapateira loop walk, it's obvious where to go- to the left (South) is a boardwalk leading up to the cliffs. Along this part, there are numerous platforms where you can go out and take closer look at the coastline. As another reviewer commented, it was not as dramatic, as I expected, but having sampled the Sutherland coast of Northwest Scotland, I am probably spoiled. The full walk takes three hours or more, but the wife and children had had enough after an hour. Thanks to the Here maps app on my smartphone (downloaded Portugal map on broadband to avoid roaming data charges), spotted another road leading back to Carrapateira, so we finished the walk in less than half the time. Take sunscreen and drinks, though temperature was 25 degrees, a full ten degrees cooler than Carvoeiro that day.
