Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Really enjoy playing at this Golf course. So good we came back a fortnight later with friends.
Front 9 is mainly played around and though the subdivision and waterways. Which makes for some interesting golf. The back 9 is played around the estuary and foreshore with some lovely scenic backdrops .
The 18th hole is a fun par 3 that drops in, in front of the club house making for entertainment when you’re sitting at the 19th having a coffee or a brew at the club house.
We had a bite and a drink from the coffee cart out front which you can take around to the outdoor seating in front of the 18th.
We’ll be back.

Happen to drop by and decided to eat there. Great decision. Staff were very friendly and food came at a good speed. We wanted one of the items changed and that was not an issues.
We didn't do desserts as we were too full. I had the bbq ribs and partner had the scotch steak. Both were great with generous servings.
Well worth the visit and would eat there again next time we are in the area

Just arrived back at Matarangi and had dinner at The Dunes Restaurant as we have in previous years - what a sorry experience! Despite the restaurant being far from full we could not get the attention of the waiting staff (despite having prebooked a table). After eventually attracting the attention of a waitress, who was sullen and gave the impression she was far too busy with something else, we eventually got our drinks. After a longer wait, and eventually calling over a different waitress, we placed our order. The pizza arrived fairly promptly but the rest of us then waited without food for a VERY long time, during which three other parties who arrived after us all got their drinks and meals; we flagged down another different waitress who finally brought our food. The food was not as advertised; the advertised spices were obviously missing from the dish, which was bland, and the potatoes tasted as though they had come from a tin and been randomly sprinkled with something. We ate what we could and then went to the bar to settle our bill - and then found we were being overcharged! On challenging the man at the Till about this he did correct the bill, but this was a very disappointing experience and a shoddy, poor meal. We are here for a three week holiday and were planning to eat at The Dunes fairly regularly - but we certainly won't be going back and look forward to eating good meals and experiencing good service elsewhere!

Firstly it should be noted that Simon and the team at The Dunes Golf Resort are first class and extremely helpful. We played 2 rounds on what is a magnificent course. We cannot thank Simon enough for how he helped our wedding day on the course. 5 stars for them.
But the accommodation is now in other hands and this was not good. Our units were missing toilet paper, utensils, dish washing liquid, there was a broken shower door and some power points didn't work! Clearly the state of some of these units has dropped dramatically since they were sold by the Resort. Such as shame as when we first visited 2 years ago we didn't hesitate booking them for our wedding, but the 2 star rating for the accommodation is justified.
But thanks to Simon and the golf resort we didn't let the accommodation issues spoil our stay.

We stayed in unit 45. On the surface very attractive, beautifully located but definitely not clean! The shower upstairs had lovely white tiles with very black mould on the grout. Not just a little-a lot! Above the sofa downstairs a bug had been neatly squashed and left on the wall. Hadn't been vacuumed, no dishcloth to be found, dirty drawers in the kitchen. These units are not cheap and don't do justice to the lovely area. Also, the website needs to be updated. The restaurant that is promoted is long gone. Heard other complaints from friends staying at the same time in different units. Would not stay there again.

Played the course today and was practically accused of trying to skip out on paying our green fees. The course was great, tricky holes, spectacular views - but our entire experience was let down by a severely rude Pro Shop guy. The accomodations looked nice from the outside and the restaurant seemed like it had a decent vibe but I wasn't prepared to spend another dollar on the property.

Possibly once a good course and could be again with some money spent
Faded glory and long past its best
Dreadful condition now
Don't waste your money on an over rated and too expensive round on a course long past its best
Shame really for a great location

Firstly its important to note that 9 of these Villas are owned by one owner, the rest seem to be independently owned. We stayed in Villa 42 right by the tee off for hole 7 which is one of the 9. The actual villa was spacious and well appointed with downstairs toilet, large kitchen then a dining room and lounge opening out onto a small deck overlooking a small lake. Upstairs was a large bathroom with bath, separate shower and 2 hand basins, 1 large queen room overlooking the golf course, 1 double at the back and 1 single. The bed was very comfortable and the area is very quite. So all good so far.
When originally built these would have been good units. There is some wear and tear around the place which I suppose is expected but the sofa is dirty, cushion covers ripped, no spare toilet paper (only had less than 1/4 roll in the toilet) and the fridge had food stains in it and the freezer was mouldy. Its a pity as it was a nice area to stay in and they looked ok from the outside. It seems a bit hit and miss but if I went back I would try to stay in one of the privately rented places.

Paid $70 for two “gourmet” burgers and two beers. Chicken burger was just a frozen snitzel patty and fries were over cooked.
