The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Ginza / Tokyo Nihonbashi
Ginza is famous for being a trendy hotspot, but it's also a downtown area with shops that were founded over a hundred years ago. Department stores and luxury boutiques line the route from Nihonbashi to Ginza. It's a long established tradition to shop and stroll while the road is closed to traffic. Luxury hotels, world class cuisine from talented chefs, and a collection of glitzy clubs will make this area popular with anyone looking for a night out.

Pleasant park, but disappointing color the day we visited
Towards the end of our 2019 momiji trip, we were still looking for color in Tokyo. We were sent here by a TA friend. There was some color but it was not worth the aggravation of getting there. We did not learn, until we left the Yurakucho station, that the Brave Blossom men's national rugby team gratitude parade would separate us from the park. We had to walk a detour to get there and a worse detour to get back to the station. The park itself had some red trees, especially near the entrance and along one side of the pond, but for the most part there was not much color to be seen. We had visited the park several times on previous trips, so we didn’t spend too much time there after we walked around the pond and looked at the Edo stone walls. The were some colorful trees blending deep reds and yellows, and the ancient ginkgo was still yellow. Some flower beds were still blooming and for December that was a nice treat. The crane statues were photographable, as were the gardeners who were pruning trees and working around the pond. The park was relatively empty: the benches had very few people sitting in them - probably everyone was at the parade. Since we came here specifically looking for color near the end of our trip, we were disappointed and didn’t spend as much time as we otherwise might have had. We can not blame the park for our disappointment, perhaps a week earlier things might have been better.

    Surprising
After passing Hibiya Park for many times, this time was my first time I actually entered the park aiming to visit the X-mas market. Well it appeared not to be there anymore, so I just checked out the park instead and honestly I was pleasantly surprised. There appears to be a lot of history involved within the park. There was a little bit of everything to be found like a very nice restaurant right in the middle, a beautiful pond, a fountain, tennis facilities, an information centre, a small museum and of course a lot of green. I was here in December so a lot of trees were without leaves which made the whole park a bit bare but nonetheless it was very, very busy with people you enjoyed the park as well as I did. I will definitely visit the park again during the summertime to see it at full glory.

Beautiful park with benches to sit down and coffee shop and restaurant at the margin.
We were just in Tokyo mid July and stayed at The Blossom, a hotel near here. This is a "Western inspired" park so, unlike anywhere else in Tokyo, THERE ARE BENCHES TO SIT DOWN!!! I saw a one star review of the park on here and can't understand how anyone can give this park 1 star. Ridiculous. There are some weeds growing along curbs - could be a little better maintained but otherwise the park is beautiful. Its a nice little respite from walking around the city. Added plus, there is a Tully's coffee with the sweetest staff and ample seating area (both indoor and outdoor) that looks out onto park. Very peaceful. Recommend riding through the park if you rent bikes. Check to see if there are any concerts in the park - there are amphitheaters.

WHERE / how to get there:
This park is humongous, and right in the midst of the main business district, just a 15-minute walk or 20-minute stroll along Naka Street (Naka-dori Avevue) from central Tokyo Station.

WHY we visited + WHAT to do:
We visited it only because of the Tokyo Christmas Market, held here once a year in collaboration with the German embassy. They stopped it during the pandemic and now it's back!! Absolutely lovin' the German Christmas Market feels it's emulating with all these present:
1. 3-storey high German Christmas pyramid
2. Legit mid-sized nativity scene (in a 2-metre long hut)
3. Handmade Christmas wreath competition (super cool designs from all over Japan)
4. Numerous stores selling Christmas decor and trinkets such as glass baubles, wooden toys, hand-woven toys, etc. We liked that they had other products unique to Japan too e.g. Steam Cream store.
5. Numerous food stores selling many types of German sausages, beef slices, mulled wine, beer, etc. Lots of seating places i.e. benches and tables in tents were set up around portable outdoor heaters so you won't feel too cold when enjoying your food.
Bonus: You'll get a cup with the ticket you've purchased, and you MUST use the cup to get your drinks. No wastage of disposable cups. Environmental-conscious!

BEFORE VISITING + when to go:
You've got to reserve tickets online and only come at the date and timeslot you'd chosen. Their website is well-organized and you get to see all the stores that will be open. Should choose earlier slots i.e. 6pm or earlier because it gets dark and chilly rather early in winter AND lots of food were sold out by 8pm.
Bonus: Might want to visit the toilets at the train stations or your hotels first before coming over, because the public toilets here were a little dirty and toilet seats were absolutely chilly to sit on during winter!

Pathetic - as with almost every park in Tokyo. Dirty, run down, bums sleeping along decrepit old buildings. Youd expect Tokyo to have decend public parks, well it does not. Seems that the park sees no investiment since it was opened, I doubt they even cut the grass these days. A shame and a complete disappointment.

Hibiya Park
Hibiya Park is a Park managed and opened by capital in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, which opened in 1903.
In the park, there are large tennis courts, flowers beds that managed seasonal flowers, a large fountain, and Matsumotoro, a famous Western Restaurant, even though it is located in the center of the big city of Tokyo. The surrounding area is a business disfrict, and it is a place of relaxation for many business people visit to take a walk around the wild birds and trees that change with the seasons.

Came from Tokyo Station and wanted to enjoy a nice day in a park. Was a bit disappointed at the Imperial front gardens so my Japanese friend took us here, a western park across the street. Did not disappoint. There were a lot of flowers and trees to enjoy walking around in. Lots of international statues that you can hunt around for. Saw a bust of the Filipino national hero here! Wow! When we went, there's a garden and food event happening in the area. Loved the Hibiya first garden.

Came here by train and was hoping to see cherry blossoms. Looks like we were too early and not much cherry blossoms. Near Imperial Palace.

This is not at all like most Japanese gardens, as it was originally based on (and continues to be based on) western ideas of parks. It includes a French-style formal garden, some landscaping in the English tradition, etc, which makes this park an interesting contrast to many Japanese parks.

When I was there in April, the azaleas and rhododendrons were in full bloom, which added a lot of colour. Some of the early bedding annuals were also in bloom.

I wouldn't call this a destination garden, but it is close to the Imperial palace gardens and the Ginza area, and makes a nice addition to visits to those areas.
