Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Pick-up a Heritage Trail map/leaflet ($1) from the very good, helpful Information Centre in town. The map lists 21 of the oldest buildings around town, with #1 The Old Courthouse, right next door to the information centre. There is a steep climb between numbers 4 and 5 but the views are worth the effort. The whole trail takes around 90-minutes at a leisurely pace. Some of the building are private houses and you are asked to respect their privacy.

Lovely walk, so much to see and learn about the history of the town. There are also some nice viewpoint, overlooking the whole town. You can relax and take in the moment when you get tired from walking as there are some beaches also along the way.

Some parts a bit of a tough walk. Well sign posted and parts of it have nice views over the harbour. Buildings well restored and maintained.

My husband and I walked this in 30 mins, we are in our 50's and reasonably fit. Some parts are are quite hilly and one road was steep. Interesting seeing back residential streets of the town, including historical homes.

We had some time on our hands and walked the heritage trail in Mangonui. There are some interesting structures and one gets a feel for what life would have been like in the mid-18th century, when Mangonui was an important center of commercial and other activity.

A lovely walk through this delightful town - the Historical Society has done an excellent job of maintaining the signs and information which make this walk so interesting and enjoyable.
And the Art and Craft Gallery in the centre of town is truly splendid!

Mangonui hides it's light under a bushel. Only a small part of this town can be seen from the main road. Once the trail leads you up into the town it unlocks an amazingly rich and varied history with some stunning views thrown in as an extra. A definite must if you're in the area.

Really enjoyed the Heritage Trail, not overly strenuous but well worth the walk, some great views and finish at Mangonui so you can stop at the café.
