Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

No matter what you're seeking, they have it. This is a very large, multi-floor department store. Helpful staff, many of whom know at least some English.

In Canada, we rarely have high end and fine department stores like this that is multi level and selling international brands, including brands found only in Asia. I was mesmerized by the store and its layout here. However, pricing wise it is expensive for the goods because its imported. Whenever anything is imported to Taiwan, its expensive after converting and shipping costs. As I can get most of the brands here in Canada for less, this visit was to experience a fine department store and cool off from the heat outside. Nice to see a lot of store associates dress nice and professionally as their uniform compared to Canada. We have Hudson's Bay, Simons, and Holt Renfrew only which is minor compared to Sogo.

The Zhongxiao SOGO, or more commonly known as the white SOGO, is the more economical SOGO in relation to the Fuxing SOGO (the green or jade SOGO), which houses many high-end and luxury brands.

But that doesn't mean that the white SOGO is boring. It is a great shopping mall in it's own right with many floors of retail and also a great food hall with a respectable selection of eats and souvenirs. That it remains a popular retail and dining destination even with the hip and trendy Dunhua shopping area around it speaks for itself.

Late in the evening service was slow and food limited. A team of three squat women wearing surgical masks would appear periodically to clean tables. One apparently sure that I was some kind of mei guoren freeloading came over to chase me away until she noticed my tray of food. Mid meal, a cockroach appeared, scampering across the back tables. Diners quickly fled. I notified the masked women but, after they left, the cockroach was still there. A while later, they returned and, when my wife and I pointed out the cockroach, they assured my wife (she speaks Mandarin, I don’t) that the cockroach would be taken care of by pest control folks arriving later that night apparently believing that my wife would be comforted by the thought that the cockroach would eventually meet its end. I do not like insects of any sort gathering around my food but cockroaches are the least likable. The food here is not that great that you need share your dish with vermin. There are many other choices close by.

Nice, sparkle and expensive department stores and two in one location, linked via the MRT station underground. If you walk on the street, it is situated diagonal from each other.

I tend to do a lot of window shopping in this store. The only time I'll spend money on anything is that I have already compared the price of the items I'm intending to purchase and has nailed down a good deal, which I've done a few times in the past.

It's been raining a lot in Taipei that we decided to go window shopping instead. The place is huge and items efficiently displayed. Employees very friendly and a few spoke English. Money changer available on the ground floor. Basement contained a food court with a variety of food offering. The sub-basement had a Japanese-themed bakery as well as other stores. It also had a huge grocery store. We enjoyed having dinner at the food court.

Strange that there are 2 SOGOs across the street from each other, and this is the older one

More than 10 floors of the usual departments - fashion, food, toys, household etc

The supermarket is average, can't find my chlorox wipes there. And the prices are 40% more thsn at Carefour. Food court looks blah too

Household department also average, can't find my Sheridan bedsheets

Not sure about the restaurants, they didn't look exciting. Probably only 1 japanese restaurant i would try out of 10 there on the upper floors

If you have time only for one, go to the newer one across the street

I live next door & I go so often because it is the place for everything. Gourmet in food court & restaurant floor are full of selection. Supermarket is one of the best in town & full selection of department store goods are great. This is definitely the flagship department store in Taipei just like the Macy's in NYC that you should never miss.

Maybe I'm just a little bit cheap but hey, this Zhongxiao SOGO is about 11 floors and I like coming here to eat on the B1/B2 floor food court. There always seems to be good stuff to eat in shopping malls like this. This SOGO has the store "Afternoon Tea" that I like to shop at. Its got a lot of asian brands that I see in asian magazines like Natural Beauty, Lunasol, Ettusais, and Top-do. There are tons of stuff to look at. The prices of items here can run from cheap to expensive and quite unique.

It's easy to get to using the public trans in Taipei. I take the No.1 (Brown line) and get off at Zhongxiao station and follow the sign for No.4 exit, which takes you directly to the B1 floor of SOGO Zhongxiao
