I wouldn't place it at the top of my desired attractions. If it wasn't for the fact that the explanatory signage included english and you are afforded a great view over Cijin beach I would have found it pretty bland and boring. But it's free so that is a plus.

We took the Gushan Ferry across the shipping channel to Cijin Ferry Station and walked 1 km west to Cihou Fort, choosing the incline pathway. Arriving at the fort, we walked behind to the pathway to the Cihou Lighthouse and its perfect morning views over the seaway and (perfect afternoon views) back to the city.
On our return, we climbed over the back of the fort for nice views out to the Qijin Coastal Park and Beach and back to the Kaohsiung skyline
While the 1720 Chinese fort is of little interest, it provides the access to the nicely preserved 1883-1918 lighthouse and the outstanding viewpoints depending on the weather and time of day.

On a historic Fort you can see the ruins. Nice view over Cijin Island and the Taiwan Strait. No description of what you can see in the ruins

Cihou Fort is located at the northern tip of Cijin Island. If we are moving around with electric bike, then we need to park the bike on the foot of the hill.
We need to walk 5 minutes uphill to reach the entrance of the fort. Consumed by time, the fort has nothing left but the concrete structure. These is a path leading to Cihou Lighthouse beside the fort. We didn't visit the lighthouse due to the hot weather.
ihou Fort was built in 1875 to secure the entrance to the port. The cannons were located on the upper level of the fort with the ammunition rooms and barracks built right under them. The fort was abandoned during the Japanese occupation. The fort was restored in 1991 and opened to public in 1995. To our surprise, the fort was designed by a British engineer

This is a historical site with partial rebuilt. I didn't find it particularly interesting but I had spent quite a bit of time sitting there to view the sunset (weather was good that day). From that height, one could capture a good view of the beach down there too. There were many photographers with sophisticated equipments stood by to shoot the sunset.
When nightfall, the view of the lit up town down there and the lightings of the opposite bank were a pleasant surprise.
There is actually a path from the Fort that leads to the back gate of the Kaohsiung Lighthouse area. There are drink vending machines and restrooms at the Lighthouse area but it closes around 6.30pm.

This was an old fort with certain areas rebuilt/restored. The fort itself was not really interesting: just an old building with lots of empty spaces and rooms.
If there were any historical significance to the place, it wasn't apparent, as there were no display or signboard telling any historical narrative. An old building without any historical narrative (or interesting story) is just an old boring building.
The vantage point here, though, was great!
You could stand on top of the fort and have a good view of QiJin and Kaohsiung Port. This was perhaps the most compelling reason to visit the fort.

We walked to the Fort from the Lighthouse via a short-cut as there were situated side by side. As it was early in the morning, there wasn't much tourist, i find it a bit creepy to walk on the stone path to the fort.The fort was now a big empty space , showing the general outline.

Cihou Fort and the Cihou Lighthouse are the two popular attractions on the western end of Cijin along with the beach. The unmanned fort, despite not looking flashy as most European influenced forts, is very photogenic especially near dusk. Views of Cijin and Kaohsiung skyline are spectacular from the top of the walls.

The Cihou Fort is an impaortant part of the history of Cijin Island. After walking up the hill (I would call it a hike) it's nice to stroll around to learn about the structore of the fort. You can walk on the massive walls and enjoy the views. However, it was not too impressive and I liked the views from the near lighthouse area more.

Spent half a day here. Good gradual hike up to the top. There is a short cut if you are coming from the Star Tunnel. From the top there are great views from the top. Not much on the history of the fort listed there. From the fort there is an easy path to the lighthouse. OK for young children to climb.
