Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We hired bikes for our 3-day east coast ride here. Well-serviced bikes come with pumps, bottle holder and bags, but you will need to buy a (cheap) repair kit. Overall we were very happy with the bikes, though the saddle on mine was very unforgiving (and I ride a race bike at home). This shop is much better than the one in Taitun. Staff in Hualien are friendly and competent, whereas in Taitun they didn’t really do anything when we arrived - not even asking whether we had a nice time... Two top tips for those who want to do the trip:

1) Ride as much as you can on the Route 193. Quit road, nice scenery. We heard that the main roads are busy - though less climbing, but we are experienced cyclist - and less pretty. The last day will be on a main road as there are no other options.

2) You can have your luggage send to Taitun at the train station, so you can only pack the essentials for the bike ride. Very reliable and cheap.

Friendly customer service - you must book in advance we thought you could just rock up but they had no road bikes for our tall foreigner frames!

In the end we took different, slightly too small bikes. Guys speak great English - so past blogs on that topic are outdated.

Website is in Chinese but just email them and book. Very helpful. Very easy. You can now also rent a helmet for TW $100.

Hassle free, just book and pickup your bike. We rent from Hualien and return Taitung. Crossing Highway 9, 30, then 11.

Affordable and reliable bikes, friendly cycling culture and infrastructure in Taiwan!
Do take note MTB pannier is only 10l and not waterproof. you will need extra haversack for multi-day cycling.

Friendly customer service, Superb bike condition and most importantly very affordable price for a whole day rent. We cycled around the town and to the beach with ease with Giant bike. Definitely will be renting bike with them if we go back to Hualien City.

Giant Cycle was an excellent company to join for their 3 day Taitung to Hualien cycle tour. Covering 200km, with a few challenging hills, but mostly leisurely cycling amongst beautiful scenery with a great group of people (24 riders in our group). Very diverse crowd, but you do need to be somewhat fit for this tour (to do the uphills).
The organisation of the tour is very well planned, Giant has all the necessary provisions , from snacks, first aid, water, luggage van etc, covered.
The accommodation provided was great, and the meals plentiful. The cost of the trip is very good value.
One note, for non-mandarin speaking participants: all the instructions will be given in mandarin, but someone in the group can help translate the important info. Just go with the flow.
A great way to see a beautiful stretch of the East coast of Taiwan.

We were the only Westerners on the trip but the English among both the participants and the guides left us with absolutely no problems whatsoever. I am also not a seafood fan (a little problem as you bike down the coastline), but they accommodated me on that as well. Bikes were well maintained, guides kept everyone safe, and there was always lots of support. If you have not cycled in a long time, this tour is doable (my wife and I are experienced cyclists but haven't ridden for a couple of months). It would be good to do a little training beforehand (there is one mountain climb), but I think anyone in fairly good shape or of a strong personality will have no problems (many people in their 60s on this trip). We hope to one day do the trip all the way around Taiwan and would definitely go with this company again because we feel it is of good value!

Amazing! It’s crazily amazing. My friend said it’s her bucket list to cycle from hualien to taidung so we decided to go and fulfill her bucket list! Tried to find several operators online but Giant is the most reputable operator. Therefore we go ahead with them. They need minimum 15 pax to go ahead with the cycling tour . Was afraid that our cycling tour wouldn’t go ahead as it’s fall on weekday but yeah, managed to hit the min pax! It was not as tedious and strenuous as I thought. I’m a beginner cyclist who learnt cycling last year may . U need some stamina and training before going to join this tour. Giant is extremely well organized. Staffs are extremely pleasant and friendly. They give clear briefing and take care of everyone of us . There is a leading cyclist and van and a support van behind. Felt extremely safe if we can’t make it. The pace is not as fast as I thought it will be. A must do in your life ya!

The GIANT bike shop just on the right side of the main train station at Hualien is a perfect store to rent good quality bikes for a daytrip or longer. We hired two bikes (ca €34 for three days) and had a bike ride all the way down to Taitung along the eastcoast highway nr 11. You can get your bags shipped (go to the baggage room at the trainstation) and took our daypack in the fixed bags on the rear. Note that the GIANT shop is closed at Thursday! Reservations are advised but we didn’t and got our bikes without any problem.
