- MelCostelloSydney, Australia52 contributionsGreat beachside townA great little beachside town about 30 minutes from Patong. Small Main Street is filled with shops. Plenty of beachside restaurants and bars. Water is not as nice as other places, but still worth a visit.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 December 2023
- Georgina HOttawa, Canada11 contributionsLittle Russia: Kamala Beach and Phuket Home to Half a Million RussiansHalf a million Russians have made Kamala Beach and Phuket their home. The beach is full of Russians. For all of my life I love meeting international travelers. The Russians, unfortunately, don't speak English. But I make eye contact, smile and say hello. Most of the time they would look through me and not acknowledge me. Russian food is on the menu at the beach restaurants. I felt like I was in Little Russia. Aside from not being able to communicate with other beach goers, the beach is long, the sand is white, the water clear. At night there are fireworks. I wish that there was a service to take the sand as people leave cigarette butts, bottles, food containers. Same thing on the main street of Kamala Beach. Lots of litter. Lots of good restaurants of all levels.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 22 January 2024

- Danks KnowsShoalhaven, Australia2,252 contributionsQuieter Thai lifestyleKamala Beach is on the Thai island of Phuket. It is about 13 kilometres north of Patpong. It is a lot quieter than Patpong but still has many restaurants and resorts. It is a more family oriented and for people seeking the Thai resort life without the hussle and bussle of a major Thai tourist town. The beach is clean and generally I found the Thai people working on it very easy going and no pressure sales. There are sports bars for your sporting fix, that show EPL, AFL, NRL, etc. overall a very reasonable place to stay and or visit. Highly recommend.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 May 2024
- lea h6 contributionsFanastic tour! 😊😊We had a fantastic and unforgettable experience on a private James Bond Island speedboat tour with Tony! Our group of 11 felt like royalty with this amazing team. Everything exceeded our expectations. The stunning Phang Nga Bay scenery left us in awe, and we even saw sea eagles and monkeys on one island. Panyee Island was magical, and the superb lunch there was a highlight. This tour is the best choice to explore Thailand!Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 May 2024
- gretta l1 contributionKamala Beach was a blast! We lounged on golden sands, splashed in crystal-clear waters, and enjoyed epic sunsets. The beachside food stalls served up tasty treats, and we danced to live music at the bars. - Kelly MAustralia3 contributionsOff season is hit and missAll beaches are dirty, it’s so sad. Horse riding not advised they are tired and not well cared for. Taxis should be 300-400Bhat but they will try for more. Best value massage is Sugar Wax!! There is a clothes shop with laundry just up the road from that and it’s great for clothes (and they do great job on laundry which is cheap). Stick to the Thai food, it’s good and has veggie options but the western food is poorly prepared and made me sick. Patong is the place to party 👍 but Kamala is nice and peaceful. Smoking is still allowed unless there are signs.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 June 2024
- TradewindsHastings, United Kingdom124 contributionsLovely Thai BeachOut of all the beaches in Phuket we visited Kamala was the nicest. It genuinely felt like a tropical beach and wasn't cluttered with filthy umbrellas and loungers as Kata beach was. Beautiful sunsets and some nice restaurants and bars along the stretch. The only real downside was the rubbish washing up on the beach which rarely got cleaned upVisited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 June 2024

- Alexandra B.Piatra Neamt, Romania333 contributionsIt's worth it, if you don't mind the crowd.A very beautiful beach, but quite crowded, with cheap sunbeds almost glued to each other. The entrance to the water is smooth, with warm and clear water, and the scenery is wonderful. Many terraces nearby and a lively area. We drank the most delicious coffee here, although when we asked at the bar what kind of coffee it was, we didn't manage to communicate in English, as we really wanted to buy that type of coffee for home. At the bar you could also find juices, coconut water, chips. A good area for a beach day.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 22 August 2024

We stayed in Phuket for four weeks and explored plenty of different beaches during our stay there, this beach was definitely our favourite of the lot! Not too busy, but lots of things to do (Kayak, surf, windsuring etc), clean, lots of sunbeds to rent for the day friendly people all around.
People walking up and down the beach selling things, but they were never pushy or lingering, unlike some other places we've been to, everybody was polite and friendly.
The view of the sunset is incredible also, and some great bars and restaurants on the side of the beach looking directly at the water. (I'd definitely recommend pond restaurant, the staff were friendly and the food delicious, also drinks were reasonably priced, especially considering you were about 10 metres from the ocean.

If you want a New Years Eve like no other then this is the place to go! We went to Smile Bar, we paid for a buffet meal and all tables were on the beach. We booked with charlie, the son of the owner, who is lovely! He helped us find our table and settle us in with a waitress for our area. The food was good and the drinks you had to pay for by cash as you ordered them.
People were setting off fireworks wherever and whenever they wanted, people were selling them along the beach. Also sky lanterns were being sold and set off.
Huge firework displays and Catherine wheels at midnight. The beach itself is lovely and we came back New Year’s Day to how out with Captain Chad, he is located at the end of the beach where the long boats are sat , just off of the green bridge. Captain Chads boat is the one with the Rasta flag. We paid 3,500 baht for 2 adults and 3 children to snorkel around a small island and then visit banana beach for a barbecued freshly caught fish and more snorkelling. Amazing!!

As a family with young children we loved visiting Kamala Beach, the water was warm and clean, and the sand soft on our feet.
We hired 2 loungers for 100 BH per person for the day that came with parasols (we like to be in the shade) and the waiting staff were lovely and attentive, serving us drinks at the loungers so we could watch the children play in the water and sand.
Kamala Beach is still a busy beach but we found it calm and relaxing with lots of family friendly restaurants on the beach edge.
I had a couple of massages on the beach for 300 BH 1 hr and my family went on the jet ski, 1500 BH 30mins.
We thoroughly enjoyed.

One of the most relaxing beaches in Phuket.
Best hotel:
Sunprime Kamala beach hotel : adults only. When you have kids then I need to go to the neighbor hotel Sunwing. Thai people are as usual very friendly.
Not so good:
When the current is high a lot of plastic is pushed up to the beach.
Sunprime hotels regularly cleans the beach right in front of there hotel.
Many Russion in the hole area.
Everything is now in Thai, English and Russian.
Specially Patong beach it's mostly Russian visitors.
Probably because they are not welcome in Europe anymore since they "again" invited Ukraine.
Patong has grown to be the next PatPong or Pattaya with many Ping pong shows and girls on the bar dancing to choose from.
Taxi maffia:
Prices are very expensive for Thailand.
More expensive then Bangkok.
They rather stand stil en do 1 expensive client then 10 on a normal fare.
Taxi from Kamala beach to Patong should cost 280 to 300 bath with a meter but they will charge you 600 to 800 for that 20 min 12km ride.
Better to use the smart bus which gets you from the airport to the most southly beach for a 100 bath every our and stops in every beach town on the west coast.

Many exclusivist nice clubs here,
Can join the beach for getting to a drink or a grab to a nice beach club or resting alone.
You have options here, paying for sunbeds, not paying, going to a cheap normal restaurant, going to an exclusive like Cafe del Mar, any option you take is it very good to take a visit to this beach.
The golf is very nice, romantic in the outmusic are or full of life in Cafe del Mar area.
Is a perfect beach!!

Probably one of the best beach in Phuket. This is because Kamala Beach is clean, the vibe is more chill than other touristy beaches e.g. Patong, and there are plenty of amazing Thais/Western restaurant to dine in along the beach. There are plenty of massage parlour along the main road of the beach as well. Highly recommend to visit the beach at around 5pm just about when the sun is setting for the amazing view to complement your dinner time. Overall, Kamala Beach is perfect for family and those who seek peace away from the hustle and bustle of Patong.

We visited Kamala beach for a few days. The beach was beautiful. We went in October, the sea was warm, calm and the beach was empty. We found a restaurant overlooking the sea and had drinks and ice creams, the staff were wonderful and it just felt like paradise! The town isn't huge which is nice and definitely not too touristy. I would happily come here again! Also, the water was warmer here than in Kata Noi.

Great Fruit shakes - the strawberry and the coconut & banana for 60 Bhat each are highly recommended.
Great Thai food next door - fresh, good flavours and cheap. Most dishes are 100 - 150 Bhat.
Shops are just before the canal that runs along the beach.

It's a quiet quiet area, not much going on which makes it hard to book tours as everything is out in Patong beach which is 30 minutes away in taxi; therefore, if you book a tour, you might get extra charges (not much in my opinion ) for pick up/drop off. For sure, it's a laid back kind of place. Relaxing for sure with the beach in the back yard and the sounds of the waves, which is exactly what I was looking for.

Not so much for Kamala beach but more for Pia who does laundry service at Kamala.
We stayed at the Intercontinental and Pia was very prompt and washed our clothes for a reasonable price, and delivered it right back when we needed it. I needed something quite ASAP for our baby and she came out in the around 7pm to deliver the clothes.

Heading to Kamala Beach second week in October it looks like lots of rain every day. Is this a good indication of weather to expect?
Written 22 September 2024
We’ve been here for the last 3 weeks and have had some different weather. 1st week was torrential rain, rained all day almost everyday. The 2nd week only rained for an hour or 2 around 11am most days, the rest of the day was nice, 28degrees and partly cloudy. The last week has been clear, hot and sunny almost everyday day, with no rain, or it rains for an hour before 5am. So pretty hit and miss, although it’s not too bad when it’s always so warm! Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip!

You have to go to one off the many tourist shops in the street. You can buy there tickets. it's not possible to get tickets in the habor or any nother place. Ticket includes transport from hotel to the harbor. Have a nice trip.

Здравствуйте. Подскажите, где лучше брать экскурсии, чтобы посетить все пляжи, в отеле или где то в центре?
Written 10 January 2020

We will be at Kamala Beach for 2 weeks at the end of November. My husband is wanting to rent a car. Is it safe and easy enough to navigate around the area? Are there others forms of transportation that would be easier?
Written 19 September 2019
Hi Marsha,
I believe it is easy enough to navigate, scooter will be easier Specially if you’ll go downtown to patong beach for parking.
Written 19 September 2019
Hi, I'm thinking going to Kamala in November this year and was wondering if there are enough bars at night to keep a couple occupied for 11 nights?
Don't need banging nightlife just some nice restauarants and bars playing live music.
Written 30 July 2019
In kamala, there are only a few bar with walking distant, which are all good, including western food or local Thai food. Kamala Beach itself has night market festival (temporary set up to sell food and souvenirs, not sure if they do it every day). There are also 7-11 or Family Mart within walking distant (if you prefer sandwiches). It is best to have your rented scooter to drive around to other towns if you prefer, or ask for Tuk Tuk (cheap and convenience local taxi). If you drive the rented scooter, restaurants are all easy access, mostly along the shoreline, just need to ask around, Thai people are very friendly.
