Highly recommend stopping off to check out the local history of this region in this lovingly curated museum. Wonderful curiosities from the region and lots of information on shipwrecks!

We had a lovely hour browsing the well set out rooms. Information about the area and all that has passed, shipwrecks, schools the wars and the locals involvement and sporting greats. Would easily have spent longer here and for a donation. Lovely volunteers manning the museum. The out buildings were very interesting as well, with a goal cell .Postbox outside and they sell stamps.

My Great Grandfather settled here from Scotland many years ago now and my Father was born in Tokanui , they lived here till my Grandfather sold up and retiredto Christchurch in 1960 . I had never been to where Dad grew up and he never went back but I was interested and after communicating with Ruth Hayes at the museum I went there . The locals were amazing , as they remembered my Dad , and the information the museum had was simply fantastic. At the end of my 4 day stay the locals all met with me at the local Cafe in the school my Dad went to and we all had a meal and a drink , certainly a very moving time and such gracious people .

Great wee museum packed with all sorts of interesting items. Displays are interesting, although it was a shame photography was banned inside. Entry by donation.
