Awesome cycling experience for the whole family - over 2 days and 1 night. Biked from Waihi to Paeroa on Day 1 with 7 adults and 5 year old. Definitely more exciting with more to see and felt it was "downhill" most of the way and the tunnel was a highlight for us. Stayed the night at Pedlars Motel in Paeroa for the night - would really recommend this hotel. Carried on the next day from Paeroa to Te Aroha and then on to Matamata with out a couple of adults and 5 year old. Did stretch us physically and thankful that the trail was Grade 1 flat with toilets along the trail. My only gripe would be that the trail was not easily sign posted from Te Aroha to Matamata and we got lost trying to get out of Te Aroha. Great experience and deserved the beer and hot chips at the end. Will do this trail again or the Thames section.

Cycled from Miranda to Te Aroha (including the Paeroa to Waihi section) with friends and family over 4 days in winter. The trail exceeded our expectations. It is well-marked, goes through lovely scenery and was a total pleasure. We had every sort of weather - from icy rain and strong winds to calm sunshine - and this just added to the experience :-) The section from Paeroa to Waihi (and back) is particularly lovely. Lots of interesting things to look at on the way. The tunnel is fabulous and has good lighting so torches are not needed. A great trail for family trips - it was fun and felt very safe and easy.

We did this trip as a family with two teens, One of our teens is a very hesitant cyclist so after reading all the reviews and working out the most scenic route is the Paeroa to Waihi piece, I rang Hauraki Cycles for some advice. Nikki from Hauraki Cycles was fantastic to deal with and she advised that it was probably far enough to go to the halfway mark and then cycle back. So we did exactly that and started in Paeroa and cycled to the cafe at the Waikino rail station. The scenery is very pretty especially with all the autumn colours, and there are plenty of native birds on the way. We decided that the two teens could have electric bikes and my hubby and I would have normal mountain bikes. On arrival we were fitted with all the gear and the bikes were all of excellent quality. Everyone agreed that going through the tunnel was a real highlight.

We were staying in the area and fortunately had access to bikes from our host. We started at Kopu and rode as far as the tunnel at Karangahake Gorge. This was about 45 miles (72km) and took a steady 4:30:00 with a few stops. The track is easy to follow and in excellent condition. There are a few places to see / visit on the trail and if you’re feeling it give it a go. You may not smile all the way round but you’ll be grinning from ear to ear when you’ve finished!! I cycle quite a lot but my wife does not. We should perhaps of started a little closer to Paeroa to make it a little easier on her! The miles can be a little harder as the gravel in places is not as worn as others but all in all it’s flat and safe an enjoyable way of spending your day taking in the scenery.

Hired bikes from here today. Nikki extremely helpful, process simple and good quality bikes. Trail to Waihi is great with fantastic scenery. We had a minor accident, but Nikki and Trevor amazing. Picked us up and got us back to Paeroa. Cannot recommend this company enough. Will definitely come back. A must do if in the area, and this company has amazing employees. Thanks again.
