Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not worth the 7km gravel narrow stoney road in. And definitely not suitable for campers or caravans (damaged our camper due to camber of road hitting our underside of van). Parking next to nil. Lakes ok, but nowhere near as stunning as most other lakes in the south island. The short walk between the lakes through the nikau palms was nice, but you can no longer go to the palm beach. its private property and warning signs not to proceed so we respected that.
We definitely wouldnt have bothered going here. Its not worth the detour.

Maybe the weather wasn’t the most appealing but regardless, having to drive for over 7km on a dirt road to them... just not worth it! They’re nice don’t get me wrong but I have seen hundreds more imposing lakes around the world!

Fabulous area with too much to see in the days we had there - we well be back. The walk along the beach up to the fossil rocks was amazing

These lakes are simply superb. Great short walk to second lake through forest, easy 15 mins (OW). Walk to seaside coast now NOT accessible, due to damage from tourist/visitors to area. Please take care of the fragile surroundings and REMOVE YOUR rubbish. Great for picnic and swim. Toilets at location. NO camping.
