Scotties Rentals has cost effective rental cars in New Zealand with offices in Queenstown, Christchurch, Auckland Airport and Auckland City. We have a range of cars including SUV, Sedans, hatch, estate, minivans or people movers and trucks. We can arrange campers also. We do have a range of older cars as well that we keep to offer a cost effective option that we feel are also more environmentally friendly compared to using all new cars. All our ranges are well serviced by our mechanics to ensure optimal full efficiency and safety. Our friendly staff are only to happy to help with planning and road safety advice during your trip

We used Scotties Queenstown to hire a cargo van to move furniture for the day. The Pick up and drop off were easy and the vehicle was in good condition.
Customer service was great Amy also helped us with parking our car for the day. It was a life saver. Thanks alot for your help. It is appreciated.

Went to pick up our car in Auckland & it was in the worst condition. Dents & scratches on the outside & ripped/damages seats inside. Nothing like the picture on their website. It was an embarrassment to drive around for a week. Won't be using this car rental place again.

Unroadworthy cars and very expensive. We hired a car over the New Years break for 12 days and cost us over $1800. The car in the photos showed a new model corolla. We received a 13 year old corolla in very poor unsafe condition. The car had the following faults: Rear bumper damaged and falling off, car stereo didn't work correctly and constantly had interference/beeping noises, front tyres worn down to the wear limits, wiper blades worn out and didn't clear windscreen (left hand wiper skipped across windscreen) engine belts constantly squealing, steering wheel wobble at low speeds, mismatched hubcaps. The car was a complete embarrassment to be driving around in. There is no way I would ever hire from Scotties again, I feel they put my young families life in danger with their unsafe car.

We had an amazing time in our trip to the North Island in NZ thanks to Scotties! Initially I made the booking through Expedia cars but on exploring further I found out the Scotties was able to provide the same deal at a much better price. That too for booking in the last week of December when no other car rental company showed availability. I booked a 7-8 seater Toyota Estima for 6 days to move around Auckland and Rotorua. All confirmation were sent in advance and when I called to check in a week before, I was told that they had prepared a Vellfire for me which was a very nice upgrade. The collection was easy as we called from the airport and within 10 mins a big cab was there to pick us. We received the vehicle nice and clean and in great shape. Even though at booking it said 03-07 model, the car we got was a 15 model run around 120k kms. The car run perfectly over the next week around 2k kms of drive. Returning the vehicle was so comfortable and convenient. Thanks to all the staff of Scotties for their service and helping to make our trip even more memorable. Will totally recommend you guys to everyone!

We had a confirmed booking made over three months in advance with Scotties Queenstown via Carwiz.
The night before we flew out to New Zealand I got an email saying to call them, with no other details. When I called them they said they had "no cars" and couldn't tell me earlier because they "couldn't find my email address".
The best they could do was offer to rent me an SUV at more than double the price of my original booking. So I was stuck with no car and no chance to book another one somewhere else at such short notice as everything in Queenstown was booked out. (A cynic might say they had realised this too, and cancelled my advance booking in order to rent my car to someone prepared to pay more money at short notice.)
I would not recommend this outfit.

The prices seem good and the lady is friendly. However, they seem to book the fleet out too closely together. We had a 4pm pick up booked at the airport and called from outside of the office at 3:40pm to see if we could start sorting it out early. The man seemed really confused and said he would call back. When he did call back, it was to say the vehicle had not been returned at 3pm and would obviously not be ready or available at our booked time. He did offer a van instead of a truck but I’m glad we didn’t take that option. We were due to pick up items from different places and were already on a tight schedule. So if you do choose to use this company, I would recommend not having an urgent need for a specific vehicle, because the man was quite blase about the complete imposition. I felt they could have called us at 3pm when the vehicle had not returned so we didn’t waste our time and petrol going to their airport office for no reason!
Fortunately we were able to rent a truck immediately from somewhere else.
I would recommend proceeding with caution.

Sorry this happened to you. This is a horrible situation for us to be in but something we are unable to control if a previous customer does not return the vehicle

I needed to rent a car for about 3 weeks as our own vehicle had an ignition problem which would take about 3 weeks to fix.
Scotties provided excellent service by picking me up from my home and taking me back at the end of the rental period.
The Nissan was not new but that was reflected in the reasonable price we paid. The car was clean and functioned well. It felt very safe.
The payment term was flexible and the owners of Scotties were very friendly and helpful.
If I needed to do this for whatever reason I would be happy to contact them again.

Never before have I been so traumatised dealing with a staff member from Scotties.
I spoke to Brian on the phone to arrange a pick up when I arrived in Queenstown airport. He was very rude and condescending.
He said I haven't filled out "check-in" form that they've apparently emailed me. I explained that I never got the email but he kept talking over me & argued that they've sent it. I gave my email address again and he says my email was too difficult to write. How is this my problem?
All my contact info was provided in the original booking, maybe he should have checked it.
After waiting for >45 mins Christian came & picked us up to their office. He was nice and apologetic, but Brian doesn't work at the same office.
In my experience, the rental company picks up the customer and go to their office and do the paper work.
I understand they're short staffed, but the rudeness from Brian is unforgivable.
No one should ever experience the rudeness and incompetency from Brian who hasn't a clue of what customer service is.
It's not the impression you'd want of NZ.
Avoid this company if you want a pleasant experience.

Don't hire from them. Just don't. You will waste your time and in the end have to hire from someone else.
1) Car delayed multiple times despite assurances that "it's already there, just don't know where it is".
2) If you don't take the extremely large damage waiver fee, they put a hold on your credit car for $5000. Most reputable companies place a hold of $300-500, at most $1000. $5000 is going to max many people's credit cards.
