Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautifully restored and curated cottage, part of the history of Parramatta. Despite an unbearably hot day, the volunteer guide’s explanations and historical anecdotes kept the attention and interest. Air conditioning would have made the visit more comfortable, but the heat made clear the realisation of how difficult the pioneers’ lives were. This was also emphasised by the mannequin dressed in heavy pioneer dress. Rooms were sympathetically furnished, with genuine pioneer-era artefacts.

Easy to get to after taking the River cat from the City, bus from Rydalmere, then walk beside the Parramatta River, walkways and park.
Most scenic.
Welcomed warmly by Guides who were expecting our group.
Morning Tea in a lovely garden setting in the shade of grand historic trees.
The Guided Tour was most informative, interesting and spell binding, at times.

This historic building is especially memorable because of its gardens which contain what are reputed to be the oldest planting of non-native trees in Australia. It contains huge oak and pine trees which are spectacular. We were there when the jacaranda trees were flowering, making a spectacular display.

After trying to visit Elizabeth Farm and finding it shut, I really didn't expect to find the front door of Hambledon Cottage open! However, we were greeted by a lovely, welcoming smile from a lady volunteer who suggested we tack onto a tour being conducted by an equally pleasant gentleman....there were only four of us in the party, but he gave us the same consideration as he might've a larger group. He told us all about the interesting history of the Cottage, talked about their efforts to conserve and furnish it according to a set period in history and answered all questions very patiently. We spent a couple of hours there and were not bored at all!

We had a couple of hours to fill and as the Cottage was open why not. We had a very knowledgeable guide who took us around and explained what was known about the full history of the Farm and the cottage. It is great to visit places that you can ask questions and get genuine answers about our history. Well worth the $6 fee. Visit I am sure you will be impressed as we were.

Penelope Lucas (Governess to the MacArthur family) lived in this house in the beginning of the 1800's; the place is restored authentically and visitors are guided by knowledgeable volunteer guides from the local historical society. Appeals to history buffs - probably not a lot to interest children.

The house is overshadowed by magnificent trees, pines and an unusual cinnamon bark one. Wonderful to see healthy trees of this size and age. The house has a neat well kept garden that takes you back to yesteryear. It is a lovely part of the Harris Park Heritage walk. Continue to see other historic buildings well signposted.
