We were provided with a wonderful guided tour of this historic cottage. Interesting history, beautiful cottage and situated in picturesque gardens.

Historical cottage in Sydney’s west
Feb 2020
Beautifully restored and curated cottage, part of the history of Parramatta. Despite an unbearably hot day, the volunteer guide’s explanations and historical anecdotes kept the attention and interest. Air conditioning would have made the visit more comfortable, but the heat made clear the realisation of how difficult the pioneers’ lives were. This was also emphasised by the mannequin dressed in heavy pioneer dress. Rooms were sympathetically furnished, with genuine pioneer-era artefacts.

Very rude guide
Sep 2018 • Solo
I have wanted to visit Hambledon Cottage for years, and finally had the opportunity to today. When I walked inside, a tour was starting which I joined. I offered the entry fee to the lady, who made a big deal that she had already shut the office door and she didn't have pockets, so told me to pay later. She was abrupt from the beginning.

When we went into the drawing room, I went to take a photo on my phone for personal usage. The guide used her hand to push down my arm and told me photos weren't allowed. She berated me for not seeing a sign that forbid photography. I had seen a sign, that said there was to be no COMMERCIAL photography, not personal photography. It was very awkward and I was appalled that she had laid her hand on me. After a couple of minutes of listening to her speak on the tour, I decided to leave, which wasn't so easy as she had closed the door which I needed to exit from. She was rude about me 'changing my mind', but I didn't want to engage with such a rude, unwelcoming lady. I am unsure if she was a volunteer or staff member, but regardless, she was unprofessional.

I will never visit Hambledon Cottage again. You are much better off going to the houses run by Sydney Living Museums; I have had much better experiences there.

Great building set in wonderful trees
Sep 2017 • Couples
The house is overshadowed by magnificent trees, pines and an unusual cinnamon bark one. Wonderful to see healthy trees of this size and age. The house has a neat well kept garden that takes you back to yesteryear. It is a lovely part of the Harris Park Heritage walk. Continue to see other historic buildings well signposted.

Beautifully-maintained gardens
Nov 2016 • Couples
This historic building is especially memorable because of its gardens which contain what are reputed to be the oldest planting of non-native trees in Australia. It contains huge oak and pine trees which are spectacular. We were there when the jacaranda trees were flowering, making a spectacular display.

The guided tour by the volunteer guides was very detailed and interesting. I love how they have set it out using true antiques from the period.
