Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I walked from Duvauchelle to the start of the Onawe Track about 30min before low tide and there was a lot of shoreline visible. The walk along the shore is only a very short section of the track before you go through a uphill gate and its uphill from there. The only disappointing thing is from the highest point there is no view forward as trees block the view towards Akaroa and the head of the harbour but there is a view looking back towards Duvauchelle. There is a narrow bush track at the end leading back which I did not fully do as I did not know where it would end up. I was there for about 3hrs and the tide was still out far enough on the way back not to get wet.

We were told by our backpacker's owner about Onawe, and walked across -at LOW tide - we were alone on this special place. Only later did we learn that very early in NZ history the Maori had a fortification/settlement in/on Onawe.

Little walk with beautiful views over lake, took us about 30 minuts so noting hard. No toilet, little parking on the end of gravel road. No big RV there!

This was well worth trekking for the views over the Akaroa area, particularly the Onawe Peninsula and Duvauchelle. It was an easy-medium grade walk with a few alternatives to get to the top. This is free to enter.
Passing onto the peninsula by foot is best taken at or around low tide. The crossing is covered by seawater at high tide.
