We were lucky enough to hike from both sides when there was not any cloud cover and had spectacular views. I would definitely take the opportunity to see this spectacular natural attraction if you are in the area.
It's really beautiful and stunning. I visited only the north slope because I didn't know that a ticket can use for two day for both slope, North and West. If I have a chance to come here again, I won't miss the west slope for...More
First you take a bus to a interchange "station" from where you take buses to other places. To go to Heavenly lake (Tianchi) you need to get an extra ticket (near where the buses stop, 80¥) and pass through a gate on the...More

The second day took their bus to up the lake lookout and an awesome snowmobile...More

We saw the heavenly lake (天池) in winter with -30C windchill, and it was one of the most breathtaking views I have ever seen. I would love to come back and see it during the other three seasons. Officially, they have a 1.5m height requirement,...More

West has a much better view of the Tianchi lake. It takes 1442 steps to go up, and aside from that you can see a canyon nearby (the same ticket). Northern side has a mor obstructed view, there are more people, and it's much easier to get there (you take a car and go up just a little bit), but there are more things around - waterfall, natural hot springs, small heavenly lake). Oh, and from the northern side you have to pay extra to go to Tianchi.
