Our second visit here. This place is like a garden of Eden. The water fall is beautiful and you can actually climb it and walk quite aways up the river and explore the beauty of the jungle. Very relaxing and such beautiful surroundings. The owner is very kind and informative and provides you with a nice coconut milk when you leave. We love it here.

Recommended by Calvin of Barrier Beach Resort where we stayed for 10 nights, we made the long and bumpy trip out to Tuffuntari Waterfall. You don't need a 4 wheel drive but you do need to take it easy. The landscapes along the way from Luganville are spectacular and ever changing. Renault, the landowner, met us at the entrance and rode with us to the falls. We were not prepared at just how beautiful the waterfall was going to be! We took so many photos of the falls, the river, the vegetation and the beautiful flowering plants. We were the only visitors during our stay and we had a delightful afternoon cooling off in the very fast river. Reef shoes are a MUST to get your footing on the riverbed - otherwise you'll be washed downstream. The river has a strong pull, so take care especially if you have young children with you. You can climb up and sit on the rocks under the fall. The water is so powerful it felt like a deep tissue massage on our shoulders and backs! Wonderful. Renault provides a huge inner tube to ride the river and after your dip he serves some delicious fruits and nuts to sample along with a refreshing coconut. Highly recommend the trip out to Tuffuntari Waterfall - all 21km of bumps :-)

To get the full experience go to the Bamboo Motel and wait outside early in the morning. Ask the driver of a pick up truck with a PT plate for a price. It is near Narango and the price should be 5000 VT return. Sit back and get a 45 minute very bumpy ride on appalling roads. As at the shop just over the bridge and a man will come and show you the fish feeding; quite impressive. Then you will be taken to the waterfall. It involves a short distance in the pick up and then a 1km walk. Your guide will point out lots of plants you have never seen before and likely some fruit you have never eaten. I had some nous which he peeled for me. The waterfall is not that large but is staggeringly beautiful and well worth the trip. There are changing facilities and toilets at the place. A swim on a hot day is very refreshing. The cost is 1000VT and worth every penny.

The road is difficult to reach the waterfall - requires a four wheel drive. Once brave enough to transverse the roadway, about one hours drive from Luganville is a small sign denoting the Tuffunari Waterfall. A short grassed drive brings you to an open area where the landowners have cleared the way and landscaped / established a an easy walking path to the waterfall itself. There are some huts to change in if necessary. The waterfall is crystal clear and falls to a rock pool ideal for some swimming - it is cool so beware. The water is quite fast flowing and some good photo shots are on offer if you climb the rocks through the waterfall. It is also a nice spot for a picnic and day out. Entry iv VT1000 (for the day). Following the walk back Renault offers coconut water and local fresh fruit to taste. Enjoyable.

Renault is a young Chief who owns the land where this waterfall is located. He has worked hard to landscape the walkway to the falls and has provided facilities to help guests maximise their visit. What he has avoided though is concrete and over-manicured gardens. The natural beauty has been retained and an abundance of tropical fruits and flowers can be seen. It may be a little out of the way for some, but Tuffabtari is definitely worth a visit. Entry: VT 1000/ adult for the day included tropical fruit tasting.
