We were blessed with a sunny day in one of the wettest places on earth. So don’t count on that but you can count on a great crew of three that are fun happy people. You get to catch your own dinner and pull own lobsters. See dolphins seals and no humans except your few boatmates It’s a small quiet boat with ten around a small table eating good simple fresh fare. You will talk and laugh and share photos while you eat but there is room and time to be alone It’s not the ritz but the views and experience are unforgettable

This is a highly recommended overnight cruise, with an extremely friendly crew and fantastic food in an amazing fjord. The team will look after your every need, and have wonderful local stories to share. We stayed in the room located upstairs with 4 bunk beds which I would recommend if you are a group of 3 or 4, as it has an amazing view.

Great trip on the Tutoko II on Doubtful Sound. Jo on dry land to greet us and Dave, Frazier on the boat were such great hosts and had wonderful knowledge and many a corny joke. With only 12 of us on the boat it was a great hands on experience catching fish, hauling up lobster pots and eating the rewards wonderfully cooked by Arturo for dinner. I would say this is the must do thing if visiting Fjordland

We took the Tutoko II overnight and it was superb. Only 12 guests. We had a wonderful day on the water admiring the sound but also pulling up a lobster (crayfish to a NZ'er) pot with 21 lobsters, seeing seals, dolphin and also had the opportunity to fish just outside the sound - and I caught a blue cod. Dinner was needless to say lobster and fish - can't get fresher than that ! We also had an opportunity to kayak in the bay where we stayed the night. It was serene and the experience was one of the highlights of our trip to the south island. Staff were humorous but professional and attentive. - this a a perfect trip if you wish to sacrifice a bit of luxury (we did book a cabin with en suite but only two had that) for a less formal, free and intimate atmosphere. In the morning the captain asked around and six of us took a helicopter from the boat back to town (this saved us 3 hours and the coach and boat trip over the pass that we had already done).

Can only recommend this trip. Small group, fantastic crew (Thanks a lot Richard, Fraser and Jacky). We saw Seelions and Dolphins, was so great. They catch the Lobster and fish for the dinner fresh from the sound. Everybody can join (if you want). So dinner was really delicious. The cabins are small, but we slept good, the beds are comfortable. On the boat we had the chance to hire a helicopter flying us out to Manapouri. That was exciting too.

Fabulous experience.
If you love the outdoors the scenery is just stunning.
The overnight trip was great.
Super crew, lovely food and a comfy bed.
You won’t go hungry , you can join in the activities or simply relax .
You are looked after really well and if you are lucky , like we were, you get a pod of dolphins playing by your bow !
I can also recommend the helicopter ride over Fiordland , the scenery is amazing and you are in very capable hands.
We are on a once in lifetime holiday and this is one of our memory making moments .

Started with a boat cruise from Manapouri town to Manapouri dam and then a informative bus trip over the Wilmont Pass to Doubtful Sound.
On to the boat to cruise the length of the Fiord, delicious lunch and great sights. Lift a pot and fish for your fresh seafood dinner.
Overnight sleep in your cabin before heading back to the bus for the return

Having now experienced the overnight cruise with Fiordland Expeditions and on one of the larger cruise boats I can honestly say that there is no comparison. Fjordlands Expeditions is better in all departments. From the moment we were picked up to the moment we finished the cruise it was a great experience. The crew were so friendly. The food was amazing. The chance to fish and catch our own lobster for supper. I really can’t fault anything and would thoroughly recommend Fiordland Expeditions to anyone thinking of going on the Sound. Many thanks to all the crew for a most memorable experience.
