Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ever since my cousin gave me Ruth's book about 3 years ago I've wanted to visit so when I finally booked the trip of a lifetime to NZ I made sure The Wee Bookshop was on my itinerary.
It didn't disappoint. I initially felt quite over-whelmed to actually be there, but then soon settled to a good old browse and a chinwag with Lance (sadly, Ruth not there). People who love books will love this place.

Smallest bookshop
Biggest heart

We turned up 15mins early … just wander around , happy to help and be early

Smallest bookshop
Largest can do attitude with customers first

Our children were stunned when we went to pay and they only take cash …

Take cash is the moral, but not the end of the our story

What is cash in 2024 ?
2024 hasn’t reached Manapouri yet - but that’s because it’s has 1950s charm, trust and solutions

We have a incredible story of simple trust in your fellow person from the story shop

Five stars from our five person family.

This wee shop is a definite must. We found a few beauties in here which were in good condition and reasonably priced. No eftpos but internet banking available. Staff were friendly and genuine. Loved it!

Such delightful mini shops and friendly people. I was lucky enough to meet Ruth just before she raced away to promote her memoir, which I thoroughly recommend. Lance opened up all 3 areas for us and we loved browsing through them. Great value books left with us. A memorable visit.

If you like genuine book shops for a good cause then do not miss this. The owner is an absolute delight and one of the founders of the environmental movement on the South Island of NZ. One of the highlights of our trip for my wife!

We came across this bookstore during our visit to Te Anau. So glad that we visited! Owners of this place were so lovely. They came up to talk to us and even offered us a ride in their 50+ year-old green Fiat:)

So glad you enjoyed your visit to the bookshop. Everyone asks if the Fiat actually goes, as you now know it does. Safe travels.
