Did this trip from Te Anau, a long day traveling on mini bus, coach and boat. Made enjoyable by comfortable and clean transport. Staff were friendly and informative. We had perfect weather and a fairly small group. Managed to see dolphins and seals, maybe a...More

Took coach from Te Anau then boat then coach over pass to Doubtful Sound so quite an adventure. All very good including picnic supplied and all timings. We saw grey seals but no dolphins but did sail well out into Tasmin Sea as beautiful day....More

There are a few choices for a cruise in Doubtful Sound, but we went with Deep Cove Charters. Everything was perfect from our meeting up with Dianne to getting on board with Capt Chris and his son Travis. This is a family run operation and...More

We took the 3-hour Doubtful Sound cruise, including transportation from Te Anau. Transportation and logistics were excellent and efficient, as described in the literature. The boat was large, comfortable, and easily accommodated the 80-100 people on the tour. It was an overcast day and the...More

We booked through Go Orange and were very pleased with their service. Very organized and nice crew. We have been to Milford sound in the past, and found doubtful to be less crowded and equally impressive. As with both, the weather is unpredictable, but still...More

Booked through "Go Orange". Very competitively priced with discount for 2nd passenger. You don't need me to tell you that the scenery is fantastic, so I'll talk about the facilities.... we drove to Manapouri where there is free parking on the Quayside or just uphill...More

Real Journeys had the trip organized very well. Alas, it started raining when we boarded the Manapouri boat, and poured until we returned. We saw some gray seals on gray rocks surrounded by gray water, with gray clouds reaching down to the water level. My...More

We were so lucky to book our last minute with Deep Cove Charters Overnight and the captain Chris Lemen. The weather was foul but at the same time it made the fiords mysterious. Chris pointed to all beautiful natural things and for all he spotted...More

The 1-day trip on Doubtful Sound with Real Journeys is first rate. The scenery and relative isolation is as spectacular as it is reported to be. The two boats and bus run by Real Journeys are new and comfortable. There's a 45 minute boat ride...More

Can anyone advise on: 1. A good value coach tour from Queenstown to one of the Sounds? (Between 2nd and 6th of June 2017) 2. Any advantages/disadvantages between Milford/Doubtful Sound for one day coach tour from Queenstown? (I will have a hire car and wouldn't mind driving myself, but not sure if my 2 passengers' (and my own) nerves will survive the day :-|)

I don't know any coach tours, but if you're planning a one day visit from Queenstown, You'll only see the obvious, being in coach for hours. I strongly advise a visit of at least 3 days to explore.

If they can appreciate absolute beauty it would be fantastic. A long day but well worth it.

Hi thinking of doing a trip to doubtful sound at the end of October 2016 and I'm trying to decide between doing the day trip or spending the extra money and doing the overnight trip. Any tips/advice, would be gratefully received!
