About Deep Cove Charters
Experience a unique overnight cruise on the beautiful and serene Doubtful Sound, set in the spectacular Fiordland National Park, one of our most scenic and awe-inspiring Sounds in New Zealand. Our overnight cruises are small (maximum 12 guests in 6 private cabins), personal and friendly and catering for those who want something a little more 'personal' as opposed to the run of the mill larger commercialized tours. Our company - Deep Cove Charter's - is Kiwi owned and operated and has been running Doubtful Sound overnight cruises since 2003. We (Diane and Chris Lemin) have lived in Manapouri for many, many years and as a result have a high level of local knowledge which will contribute towards a fantastic 'bucket list' experience for yourselves should you elect to treat yourself to an overnight cruise with us on our specifically designed boat SEAFINN. Doubtful Sound Charters are also available - ideal for diving and for personal and corporate groups.

An extraordinary tour! I strongly recommend Deep Cove Charters. We were looking for a tour with small numbers and this was perfect as the boat takes up to 12 people (the other major operator hosts 80 people). This tour extensively travelled the doubtful sound (not part of it) and we also toured all the way out to the Tasman sea. Chris is very experienced and has many years touring the Doubtful Sound sharing his knowledge of the wild life and history of the sound. Variety: on this overnight trip, we kayaked, swam, fished,(these are optional), brought up fresh crayfish (and ate it!) and relaxed taking in the wonderful scenery.

We were expecting a scenic cruise of Doubtful Sound and we got so much more. The Skipper Chris made the enjoyment of everyone on board his top priority. Nothing was too much trouble. He knew I wanted to catch my first blue cod and with his help I caught two and a shark. The food was sensational and the boat just perfect for a small group that soon became like old friends. We hadn’t seen dolphins so Chris took us down another arm so that we got the opportunity. I ended up wishing we were on a longer charter just because we were so well looked after. Both Chris and Rachel never stopped making sure we had the most amazing experience. If you are even half thinking of this trip then I say go for it. It’s amazing.

We had a totally fantastic overnight trip out on Doubtful Sound with Captain Chris and first mate Jenny. Nothing was too much trouble for them and the scenery was breath-takingly beautiful. The meals were mouth-watering and included fresh crayfish and blue cod. We were encouraged to fish for our dinner which was fun and produced great results. The kayaking was peaceful and the (very short) swim was "bracing." We were lucky enough to see pods of dolphins with their babies which was simply delightful. Thank you so much Diane, Chris and Jenny for such an awesome experience one which we'll never forget.

Our trip with Deep Cove Charters to Doubtful Sound was the absolute highlight of our three-week trip to New Zealand. Everything was perfect - the food (including fabulous fresh-caught crayfish/lobster, which we subsequently discovered costs a fortune elsewhere), comfortable sleeping quarters, knowledgeable and accommodating hosts, and most of the all, the sound itself - an perfectly gorgeous, peaceful paradise. We balked a bit at the price initially -- there are cheaper alternatives -- but having read the reviews and considered that we might come back to New Zealand, we went for it. And never regretted it for a minute! This was a first-class trip, with a tiny group of fellow travelers, and the experience was irreplaceable. Don't hesitate! Do it! You only live once!

An excellent experience that ticked all the boxes. Great communication from the get go. Seamless trip to Deep Cove. Chris, Rachel and Spanner did everything to showcase Doubtful Sound and make this an unforgettable experience. A real bonus was meeting and getting to know fellow passengers. Not to mention the crayfish! Would recommend as a highlight of a tour down south.
