Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On our way from Hue to Hoi An, the tour group I was with made a rest stop here. Great views, including that of beaches and the city of Da Nang. It was a bit cold and windy here, so a hot cup of Vietnamese coffee hit the spot.

This two way single lane road from Hue to Hoian is absolutely beautiful. It reminded me of the Amalfi Coast in Italy. About a 3 hour drive around winding roads in the mountains, you can see the ocean through the clouds.
Very few people or buildings here as the government controls the land, but this would be an ideal place to build a few luxury hotels for the tourists. Build, and they will come!

We were really looking forward to the trip over the Hai Van Pass, as one of the highlights during our 2 week vacation. Unfortunately we experienced 6 days of rain and long before we reached the pass visibility was limited to 50 m. It was not until we were halfway down that we managed to get a view. So, my advice is to give the pass a miss if the weather is bad.

Riding through "Hài Vân Pass" and its winding roads, sudden curves and blind corners can be quite a thrill! On National Route 1, the 21 km long mountain pass crosses over the Truong Son Range and juts into South China Sea, overlooking Son Tra Island. It used be the border, during centuries, between the ancient kingdoms of "Dai Viêt" and "Champa". At the top of "Hài Vân Pass", Emperor Minh Mang built, in the 19th century, an outstanding brick gate, which is surrounded by scattered bunkers dating from the first Indochina War (or the French War, as called by the Vietnamese). These bunkers were later used by the American forces during the Vietnam War (or the American War). A quick stop, a few pictures and back to this thrilling road through awesome "Hài Vân Pass"! Enjoy!

Best way to experience this.... is be prepared to stop every 15-20 seconds... so many sights and different viewing points. Now I personally think the hidden water falls and the streams with the railroads down a ways is just BEAUTIFUL. Like I said besure to stop every 15-20 seconds.

Would be different on a clear sunny day but I think this area gets cloud cover most of the time with being higher up. Even then though, there are so many trees it is hard to get a view that is not blocked.
It's a good way to get from Hue to Da Nang but I've been on better and more scenic climbs on other trips.

It is a twisty steep road with many slow trucks (that are hard to pass). Once at the pass, there are many vendors selling things. There are some ruins of the previous "fort". The views were OK (depends upon clouds and haze). The road up and the road down are the same, so expect to take your time.

If you reach Hue or Hoi An( so basically if you travel from N to S or S to N) it doesn’t matter! Be sure you travel between this two points with a private car/motorcycle or any other way that could help you enjoy this amazing road between mountains that once they divided these two regions.
