The history of this dam and the "bouncing bombs" used to destroy it during WWII is really interesting - we had seen a show on this a few years ago and didn't realize it was here. It is worth a trip to see it.

Having been to the Dambusters museum at Edertal this trip was an absolute must. Once again it brings home the courage of all involved on both sides as well as the tragic loss of civilian life. We visited the Dam on a beautiful sunny day. As we were staying fairly near it was a must see, remembering the film The Dam busters. It was a very emotional experience for some visitors remembering those who lost their lives at that time.

A memorial next to the dam wall explains the tragic loss of lives including so many civilian ones. Thought provoking, sad but worthwhile.…

The bombing of this dam caused 1,600 civilian deaths and the destruction of whole villages. Visit the memorial at its base. The surrounding area is beautiful for walking or biking.
