This place is an absolute gem! We have been twice now for special events but as the £10 entry fee for steaming days now lasts a year, we shall be going more regularly. First visit was for the WW1 weekend, where I was able to...More

So why would you want to visit a pumping station? Well this is a very ornate building within beautiful grounds, although a functional building the Victorians knew how to show off. It is an important part of history run by volunteers, they have planned steam...More

I took my dad here on fathers day and we got lucky with a guide. The very nice gentleman walked us round the whole place, and was so knowledgeable. Dad adored it so that was great. We want to go back on a weekend when...More

This place is quite simply...amazing. It is stunningly beautiful inside - only the Victorians could make something so stunning when the public was probably never meant to see it. The tour is done by the volunteers who work here to keep this incredible place going....More

We are new to the area and stumbled upon Papplewick Punping station by chance. What a place! The volunteers are fab and very welcoming, from the minute we got out of our car until we left. Great history and very informative signs and videos. We...More

We visited today in the sunshine and had a brilliant time. The volunteers are so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and talk so nicely to the children. The buildings and the machinery are so impressive, but the underground reservoir is simply awe-inspiring.

Wonderful collection - boiler house, pump house - apart from incredible machinery, the decoration and stained glass were superb. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly volunteers made the day.

Off the beaten track and only open intermittently, but very definitely worth the effort to see this wonder of Victorian engineering. They don't make stuff like this anymore!

Easter Monday was very wet and very cold, so we could appreciate that the craft fair was cancelled and that the ground would be muddy. We decided it was still worth a trip out to Papplewick. I've seen the amazing Victorian engineering before but it...More

Dear Oliver Thank you for your review and I am pleased you enjoyed your visit. I note what you say about the entrance fee but we feel it is justified as without the income we generate from steam event days we simply would not be...More

Having wanted to visit for a long time, finally made it on Easter Monday and certainly not disappointed. On arrival, volunteers told us craft fair closed due to the bad weather which although disappointing did not spoil the day. The beam engines are simply spectacular,...More

When we got married I'm sure they said dogs were allowed on the grounds on leads but not inside the attractions, but to be sure contact Ashley there he is in charge and very accommodating.

Dear Jmac90, our beam engines are very quiet, you can have a conversation quite easily whilst they are running. On steam days we also have the miniature railway and tours of the underground reservoir. This weekend, Oct 10th... More
