In all, the hike was 9 miles with about 1,200 feet of elevation gain. Along the way there are great views. We finished up at our hotel in Santo da Serra - a quaint town in the mountains.

This levada was one of the busiest we walked. Much of it is very easy to walk but some sections need care. The stunning views which used to be seen here are rather lost now that the trees are more mature. But nonetheless sneaky views...More

The main walking trail of Levada do Furado runs from Ribeiro Frio to Portela, about 11 kilometres and taking about 4 hours. We've visited Madeira several times, and like to do at least one Levada walk while we're there. My wife and I though quite...More
