I have attended two evening functions at the Tanks Arts Centre. They have both been absolutely spectacular, with divine finger food served in the magical outdoor, rainforest setting. Both were held in July, and the weather was very pleasant and warm, compared to home down...More

The idea of transforming old WWII oil storage tanks into an arts venue is genius. The art gallery in Tank #4 is free and has rotating exhibits. The exhibition on display was Pride in Authority- an aboriginal cultural exhibit. This exhibit contained art work from...More

You’d be hard pressed to find a venue as original and funky as the Tanks anywhere in North Queensland or Queensland as a whole for that matter. An entertainment space made from three converted World War II naval oil storage tanks, the Tanks (as they...More

With Botanical gardens as back drop, the TANK Markets line the winding foot path on a Sunday in season. The art exhibition was inside one of the old refurbished tanks. The other tank had a cultural event within it. We had a great day. There...More

The art centre seems to consist of five huge circular tanks, each of equally dreary appearance. No. 5 had a notice to say that it was closed while a new exhibition was being mounted. Fair enough, but what about nos. 1,2,3 and 4? Nothing to...More

Hi Lindagreenacre, The Tanks Arts Centre consists of 3 of remaining 5 WWII oil storage tanks. They are heritage listed so whilst they have been converted into an arts centre can not be re-painted, hence the 'dreary' natural appearance. It's true the rainforest has started...More

We stumbled on Tank 4 by accident . From a practical viewpoint it is amazing that people had the foresight to convert and make use of the old tank and in the process saved it from demolition and create a venue to display artwork. On...More

We came across the gallery as we completed our walk. The gallery space was unique and beautifully presented. Current exhibition was sensitively curated focussing on the Cairns community. Wonderful images representing the multicultural community. A wonderful surprise in a beautiful space.
