We were highly impressed by the significance of the abbey (6th century!) in the early Middle Age and by the mosaic in the crypt where the Irish missionary Colomban is buried.

Here in Bobbio rests S:t Columba (in Italian San Colombano) who was responsible for bringing Christianity to Ireland, in a magnificent tomb. A nice and tranquil place which was also cool on this warm (+32) September day. I had no idea that he was entombed...More

In this ancient Abbey lies the remains of St Columbanus who 1400yrs ago put Bobbio on the map as he and his monks settled there and built their monastery. The whole of Bobbio speaks of St Columbanus and it is only right that a visit...More

Great location housing Bobbio Film festival in August. A must see for Val Trebbia. Highly recommended
