Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We enjoyed the service of the Tourist information center a couple of times during our stay at Kawaguchiko.
This place is real treat for foreigners. Clear English guidance and advise; lots of information and maps available.
Worth a visit to guide you through your endeavors around the area.

There are 2 locations at the station manned with tourist information agents from whom you can request help. One desk is inside the station building (before you pass through the souvenir shops and restaurant); the other, in an adjacent building, primarily deals with hotel reservations and other bookings.
We dealt with both and found one very helpful, the other not so very.
As soon as we got off the train we went to the first desk within the station since we have experience from two previous trips and know this desk can get very busy. We asked the agent for information about the 2 day bus pass. We feel we weren’t given the full picture. The agent did tell us we would save money with the 2 day bus pass since we would be staying for 3 nights, what he didn’t tell us was that during sakura season the buses are impossibly crowded, do not come anywhere near to meeting their schedule, and often stop at your bus stop with the announcement “sorry, sorry, next bus please, no room…” and then they drive by. We had this happen to us more than three times in our 2 day visit. We finally gave up on the buses and found we could walk where we wanted to go faster than wait for the bus and ultimately be denied entrance - or we just didn’t go everywhere we wanted. When we complained to a bus person at the station we were told to telephone headquarters. So much for customer service. The solution would be easy - for peak periods get more buses or larger buses.
We also asked for maps from the station TIC and we were given one for both of us to share: we prefer to each have a map of our own, but that request was refused. This visit was in mid-April, peak sakura time, and even though we were the only tourists at the desk, the staff person was curt and abrupt, almost rude - certainly he didn’t want to spend any time helping us.
We took our map and left quickly and unsatisfied. We went to the office next door to ask someone at the booking desk to call our hotel to ask for the shuttle van to come pick us up. While we waited we asked for information here about bicycle rentals. We were given another map here and helpful information about bicycles. At this reception desk we found friendly help and good service.
My suggestion - know what you want and ask it, but don’t expect a lot of help from the agent in the station, try next door.

The tourist officer was not typically friendly. She just answers what you ask her and do not give recommendations. Dont know if its because language is the barrier. Best to read up on your own too and request for maps.

Very rude and poor attitude by one lady, in the office. Have never seen anything like that before.
I think she was the elder woman in the office. So rude. I do not understand why people like this work in a tourist office in Japan. She gives a very bad impression and obviously she does not like her job...
I asked for a map, since I see she gives to people before me in line.
She said : "we have only a few left, so no"
I was shocked. And the way she spoke. So rude.

As you reach Kawaguchi this is the place to be .
The staff is very helpful in giving tips on what to see around Kawaguchi how to go where to stay what to eat and how it all costs .
They also do booking for buses to cities from here .
They call your hotel to send in shuttle should there be one .
There is a cafe and toilets nearby .

This review is for the stand-alone Fujikawaguchiko Tourist info center to the left of the station.
I speak basic Japanese and always make an effort to use it. I asked about pamphlets I picked up about a boat tour and a nearby onsen. I wanted to know the bus schedule to each and cost, and a little info about the boat tour. She spoke extremely quickly and wouldn't slow down when I asked her to repeat several times. She would not give me info about the boat tour. She did not look at me while we spoke and finally showed me a bus schedule briefly and took it away again.
She was very rude by Japanese standards, and rude and unhelpful even by NYC standards where I am from. I can only guess that she dislikes foreign tourists and hates her job. Would not recommend this tourist center except to pick up pamphlets which are mostly in Japanese.

We found the lady at the outside tourist information office completely unhelpful and rude- she just seemed to want to argue with us. We had already secured a booking at a hut for climbing Mount Fuji - it was actually the night before the climbing season opened. The lady at the tourist info wouldn't give us any bus schedules and insisted the climb was closed. Then we asked about the hotel in town where we staying and she said that they wouldn't pick us up with their shuttle until after 3 that afternoon. She just didn't want to give us any information at all! [Please note that this was NOT the Bus Information Desk inside Kawaguchiko Station- as we found that office very helpful!]
