Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is an observation point at Khandala where from you get an exceptional view of the table top mountain and the lush greenery and the fabulous waterfalls during monsoons. Try to visit during monsoons,as during that time only, the real beauty of the place is revealed.
Can be accessed by public transport as well as private car or two wheeler, then one has to cross a guard wall, then clamber down a badly maintained path of shrubs and loosely strewn rocks (see accompanying picture) My friend's wife managed to get down to the view point with a 2 year old kid in her arms !
But be careful with young kids as the fall from the observation point (without a single guard rail ) will be killing !

The view from this place is spectacular to say the least, and one can see the Kune waterfall on the opposite side of the mountain, and the Mumbai Pune Expressway right below.

During monsoon, the waterfalls on the opposite hills are full and the greenery surrounding them are mind-blowing. Enjoy but be extremely careful, not to lean or go near the edge of the hills !!

Only food available here are the smoked corn cobs ( Bhutta ) sold by locals

This is one of the best place to visit in Lonavala. I would recommend to visit this place early morning. I went there at early morning before sunrise. At the time of sunrise I experienced some breathtaking views of valley. Early morning so no one was there it was very calm.

As others have mentioned, the point itself is located in Khandala, and named as Shooting Point. When I visited there with my wife in August 2016, the spot was closed and taken over by some private parties. We had to grease the palms of the security there to let us in; once in, however, they were very helpful and guided us carefully right to the spot.
The path to the spot is treacherous in the monsoon, as the path is slightly rocky and mushy; it is quite easy to slip and fall. The spot itself is beautiful with amazing views of the waterfall, but totally unprotected; there are no guard rails at all. The security were vigilant in taking us by hand to the spot, and made sure we didn't stray too far to the edge. We spent around 20 minutes there, taking pictures.
The security told us that there were a few accidents recently due to people falling off the edge of the cliff, and thus private parties took over the entire spot, with the intention of making it easier and safer to access, for a fee. I feel it is better to wait till this process is completed and the spot is thrown open to public before visiting again, especially in the monsoon.

I'm not sure why no one has bothered to write here, but this place is now a private, gated property (called St. Mary's Villa or something like that). There is a big NO ENTRY board outside. We wasted 30 mins of our lives driving here and turning back. Wish someone had taken this off the attractions list here.

Had been to Lonavala and Khandala many a times but visited SHOOTING POINT for the first time and it didn't disappoint.

Location : While driving to Lonavala from Mumbai through old highway it's on the left side and can be easily located through a sign board below expressway bridge.

It's almost wide and flat terrain and gives a very close view of the vast mountain with 1-2 waterfalls on opposite side. Quite and relaxing.

Offers an amazing view....must visit in Khandala.

No parking facility...one parks vehicle on the a narrow road which ends here. Kamat restaurant is almost half of a km from here.

From "Bhushi Dam" it was a long treacherous 7 kms uphill drive past the iconic "I.N.S Shivaji" and a few pothole roads to "SHOOTING POINT".Encountered thick fog which made driving conditions next to impossible for a two-wheeler.Visibility was reduced to barely 25 meters and adding to the visibility danger was a few potholes on the narrow mountain highway. Finally at 1100 hrs in dense fog was at "SHOOTING POINT" in Khandala . The intensity of the fog can be imagined through this photograph reminding me of the "Hound of the Baskerviles" setting although this was not Dartmoor in England but "Monsoon Lonavala" barely 90 kms from concrete jungle Mumbai. On a bright day this locale offers a view of the Rajmachi fort and the flowering valley below.Numerous films have been shot in this locale and hence its name "SHOOTING POINT". But today i could barely see 100 meters away and felt i was on a film shooting set of my favorite detective novel , "Hound of the Baskervilles" !

OMG! The view here was spectacular. Very close to Lion's point, a sort of stranded area with a good view of the mountain and the valley. On a hot summer day, there is a lady by the roadside who can make you a wonderful lemon juice water with bisleri water (for all those mineral water drinking folks).
