Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Worst experience we had during our NZ vacation at the beginning of the year.
We were on the Forgotten World Highway and stopped at Laurens Lavender as it was advertised in the brochure. We parked our car and approached the building. We did not even reach the building when a woman came out and told us in a very rude way that we were only allowed to come closer if we buy something in the café or the shop. Indeed we planned to have breakfast here, but then we left immediately as we definitely do not support such a dodgy business practice. I strongly recommend everyone NOT to stop here!

The surrounding gardens and the cakes and coffee were good. However one of our party was in a wheelchair and there was no easy access from the car to the gardens and no access at all to the cafe indoors. The shop had some nice looking soaps etc but I couldn’t buy them because they don’t accept credit cards

Beautiful place, however the first time we tried to visit they were closing. So we left and came back a few days later.
We found the lady to be rude, we can expect not wanting the kids in the shop, but she wouldn't even take our coffee orders until after she had caught up with the other order, then put other people ahead of us. Okay so that was fine, until she got really grumpy we walked on the grass on the outside of the plants. The sign says don't walk in the rows so we didnt. But she was highly rude about it. She may in the future want to think of having a sign that states no entry!

I’ve never encountered such unpleasant, rude and arguably racist service in my entire life. We arrived, missed the sign that had the list of requirements for entry and my partner asked to use the bathroom.
First question, where are you from? Second question, are you having coffees? Yes, we will.
My partner went to the bathroom and when she came out we took a photo, not knowing that it was illegal to have a photo without permission.

The same lady came and barked at us- we told you you needed to order coffee. You didn’t read the sign.
It would have been very simple to explain it to us but instead we received utterly horrific service. I’m white, my partner and daughter are Asian. Hence the reason the first question we experienced was where are you from? As opposed to a good morning? Table for three is it as you would expect anywhere else you travelled.

Simply disgusting service and presumably you have to ask for permission for photos of the lavender so you don’t advertise that Asian’s are welcome

We stopped at Lauren's for a cup of tea and a muffin early in the afternoon when the temperature was 28 degrees! Fortunately the farm has a cool large covered deck and numerous umbrella covered tables around the gardens. The food was super fresh and the entire place was totally clean and immaculate. Our hostess, Lorraine, was very friendly and attentive.

We walked though the gardens and took the path down to the landing down by the river where folks on canoe trips come ashore for refreshments. It was a lovely walk but be aware there are a lot of steep steps.

There is also a very nice shop full of every Lavender shop imaginable.

Just a quick stop as part of the Forgotten World Highway railcart trip as the jet boat part was cancelled due to the weather. The lavender wasn't yet blossoming but I can imagine it will look amazing when it does. There was also a lovely little shop there too.

Called into Lauren's Lavender Farm on our way to join the Forgotten World adventure, we shared a tasty scone and had a cuppa outside in the garden surrounded by a sea of mauve lavender and shaggy-headed hydrangeas coloured from white to purple. Of course visited the shop and came away with some goodies. We couldn't get down to the river as the path was closed due to slips, but we'd love to have a look another time.

We visited for our last taste of real coffee and civilisation before continuing on the river canoe journey. Friendly service, great cake/scones and coffee, clean loos, and a lovely shop. However, I think the lavender and the bees are the real attraction!

While the lavender was past its blooming best, the summer heat ensured the heady aroma of lavender was all around. This is a lovely cafe with plenty of indoor/outdoor seating, which looks over the heavenly rows of lavender. Quite the nicest pot of tea I've had in a cafe in a long time. There's also a great shop that sells almost anything with lavender. Really friendly and helpful staff.

Although the lavender harvest was over it was still lovely to sit in the grounds for a cuppa and a chill out after a long drive. The lady who welcomed us was just lovely and made us feel very happy that we'd chosen to stop by. She was just the same with all other customers and it was lovely to hear.
