Favourite tour on Rail Discoveries Jungfraujoch All Inclusive
We were on Rail Discoveries Jungfraujoch All Inclusive Tour and this included the train from Wilderswil to Schynige Platte. The weather was clear blue skies and 20°C+. This was our favourite tour of the week. As walkers we took the alpine garden, Oberberghorn, Daube circuit. Approx 3km. Of wildflowers, a marmot, many butterflies, and great variety of terrain and extensive views. The rail journey itself was very interesting through meadows with cattle bells ringing, steep woodland and tunnels. Two men in traditional costume played their alpenhorns close by the station. Strong footwear is recommended and we did wish we had our walking poles with us.

    Insane beauty
Was really one of the most beautiful places I've ever been in my life. After you get up on the cogwheel train and then you start walking to where they have the Alpine garden and then you just look around at the Alpine pasture it's just insanely beautiful. I come from Canada where we have a lot of beautiful mountains as well but they're not as accessible as in Switzerland. In Switzerland they have trains or cable cars that go right up most of the mountains which makes them very accessible. I highly recommend this trip on the old fashioned cogwheel train.
Thank you so much for your visit and we are really happy that you enjoy everything. Your Berghotel Team

Went up just for the Alphorn experience, and it was all worth it!
Known as the Top of Swiss Tradition, Schynige Platte lived up to its nickname since I witnessed an alphorn concert here. The ascent was pretty slow, but honestly, it made me relax my mind a little since I had tight scheduling within the area. The railway had great views of the lakes and the city of Interlaken below! At the top, I hiked a little and of course since it was October, the plants are mostly dead. While hiking I heard the sound I was looking for, the alphorn was playing! Was curious where the sound came from, and upon going down the hill, I saw this couple dragging their alphorns and I felt bad asking if they could play the alphorn just for me. They accepted it without any hesitations, and they played two songs and passersby stopped over and stayed awhile. At the end, several people gave them tips, and so did I. They deserve it. They played it so well it gave goosebumps on me especially they played the alphorn with the Swiss Alps on the background. Nothing can get more Swiss than that!
Thank you so much for your visit and wonderful recommodation. Your Bergfhotel Team

The train is quaint, and the views amazing (we did the Panoramaweg walk, which actually is not for the faint of heart). However the train is quite small and slow (a fast walking pace), so it takes a good 50 minutes to make the trip each way.

Even in the middle of the week in the off season, it was crowded. Everyone is loaded into the quite small carriage with bench seating, so you have to snuggle up. Even though everyone was wearing a mask, being in a small airless carriage with 30 or so other people didn't feel safe. In fact the folks next to us objected to being asked to board the train with so many people, but since the train is the only way down other than walking, they had no choice. In fact, they got off half way down, presumably to walk the rest of the way.

They should really put the train to at least half capacity. I'd avoid this experience until Covid is no longer an issue.

At long last one of my wishes came true and was able to complement my previous experiences from the fantastic Jungfrau region.
We enjoyed a fantastic old fashioned and slow ride up the mountain, the views are simply breath taking - any time of the year.
We very much enjoyed the approx. 2 walk / hike, and proper hiking boots are much recommended. The altitude should be well considered and take it easy / slowly to best enjoy the day.

Hiked the Panorama route of 6+ km, unfortunately we hiked it counterclockwise and felt the views would have been better clockwise keeping Interlaken and the lakes as well as the Alps to our front. The views were fantastic and the trails were well maintained. Half way through the hike you have the opportunity to climb a tall rock mass to get a panoramic view. This was the toughest part of the hike.
The train ride up and back down takes about an hour each way and the hike was a little under 3-hrs.

We had a magnificent trip on the train to the station at the top. It was so gods that we did it twice in our 10 day holiday based in Wilderswil. On a hot summer day the climate at the top was just right. There are great walks and an excellent restaurant which is both self service or with full table service.

The Schynige Platte is an area at an altitude of about 2000 meters which can be reached by an historical train ride from Wilderswil. The ride is expensive, slow and not all that comfortable, but worth it! The views over the Interlaken valley with the Thunersee and the Brienzersee are unsurpassed! The panoramic hike was regrettably still closed due to snow but the hike to the top of the Daube was also great. There is a restaurant and hotel, and a garden with Alp flowers as well.

PROS
• Great massive mountain top plateau giving amazing views of snow covered mountain peaks
• Breathtaking scenery in all directions- from the two tranquil lakes to the towering peaks
• A variety of good and challenging hikes, but also easier ones
• Starting point for many varied hikes, including the day-long trek to Faulhorn and down to Lake Bachalpsee, First and finally Grindelwald.
• Restaurant and Alpine Flower Garden are popular places to visit too
• The cost of the antique 125+ year old slow train is covered by the Berner Oberland Pass.

CONS
The slow train ride from Wilderswil

“I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… because I hiked from here to the peak of Oberberghorn the previous year and loved it so much that I had to return and hike with my 30 year old son. rea

We very much enjoyed our time at the top, including exploring the area at the top of the train depot and the restaurant building and then our journey to the top of the Oberberghorn, where the uninterrupted 360 degrees birds eye view was unequaled. The climb to the top on rickety ladders was also exciting 🙄 again

The weather was quite cloudy and overcast and it was not warm, and that clearly affected what we did and how much we enjoyed our visit. I wish that we could have stayed longer and explored and hiked more.

WAS IT WORTH THE COST
Sure- it is covered by the Berner Oberland Pass

WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
Sure- I'd love another chance to hike here on a clear warm sunny day

ADVICE
* Be prepared to endure the annoying slow train ride of almost an hour
* Arrive to Wilderswil train station plenty of time before the scheduled departure, so as to ensure a seat
* Be prepared for small seating compartments with every seat taken.
* Enjoy the incredible fantastic unbelievable 360 degree classic Swiss Alpine scenery

On our trip to interlaken we decided on a trip to schynige platte We started on our trip from interlaken west bahnhof ,near interlaken west train station .We boarded bus number105 to wilderswil frequency twice an hour (22minutes and 52minutes on the hour ) Took about 10 mins to reach wilderswil
The bus stops just outside Migros supermarket from where one can pick up sandwiches ,drinks ,fruits for picnic at schynige platte. We then took cogwheel train up to schynige platte from wilderswil station across the road from migros Trip up took about 40 mins and was scenic
When we reached the schynigge platte station we were welcomed by Alp horn music being played .We found a nice little place for our picnic and then visited the hotel nearby for coffee and desserts .From terrace of this hotel you get fantastic views of eiger ,monch ,and jungfraujoch .You also get views of interlaken town between lake thun and brienze .Lot of trails around to hike
This whole trip from interlaken west to wilderswil to schynige platte was free on swisstravel pass

Alpine Garden is located in Schynige Platte which is the Mountain region in Switzerland.

I’ve read a lot about Alpine Garden and Schynige Platte region and last year was the chance to visit the place and again this year. It is natural garden where is really you will feel and live the clean environment.

How to reach the place:

I was staying in Interlaken and from there you need only 5 minutes drive to Wilderswil town where the Schynige Platte Railway station located then you take the classic train to the top of the summit of Schynige Platte which only 15 minutes and you will really enjoy the journey specially if you have young kids because the journey is amazing. By the way, if you have time before you take the train don’t miss walking around Wilderswil Town which is really nice old town.

On the top of the summit where the Alpine garden is located you will enjoy the hiking over there beside that your kids will enjoy the nice playground with the spectacular views of the area where you can see both lakes surrounding Interlaken which is Thunersee and Brienzersee.

Please don’t miss it, it is highly recommended by me.

Wonderful Experience in Switzerland

Best Regards,

M. Alowais
