Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you’re planning to visit Angel Road, I highly recommend timing your visit carefully. I was lucky enough to catch a breathtaking sunset moment and the view was absolutely stunning. The golden hues reflecting off the sand and water created a magical atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for photography.
However, keep in mind that Angel Road disappears at high tide. By early morning, the rising tide had already covered the pathway, so if you want to walk across or take photos on the sandbar, be sure to check the tide schedule in advance. The ferry station and hotel will show the information.
This spot is also a popular destination for wedding photos, and it’s easy to see why.
This morning, I went for a morning exercise (晨運). It was a refreshing way to start the day! I love this peaceful island.
Whether you’re visiting for the view, a romantic walk, or simply to take in the beauty of nature, Angel Road is truly a must-see in Shodoshima!

One of Shodoshima's most famous attractions is Angel Road. Angel Road is a sandy road that emerges from the sea at low tide twice a day. We went to the Tonosho website to check the time of day when Angel Road appeared.
It was a beautiful sand road, but instead of heading straight for the sand road, we went to the Promised Hill Observation Deck at the top of Benten Island, just before we crossed. This is the best place to look over Angel Road. You can also ring the Bell of Happiness with Angel Road in the background at this observatory.
After that, we crossed Angel Road to Benten Island, across the sand road, to see it. By the time I got home, the tide had started to rise. The sand trail gets thinner and thinner, but the speed was faster than expected. Be careful not to be left behind.

We visited on a tour. It is a sand road that disappears when the tide comes in. It is said that if you cross it holding hands with a loved one, your wish will come true. You can reach Bentenjima by crossing the sand road. There is nothing special there, but it is a pleasant place surrounded by the sea. It is a 5-minute drive from Tonosho Port and there is free parking. It was already closed that day, but you can buy a scallop votive tablet at a shop along the way, write your wish on it and hang it up. It is also charming to hear the rattling sound it makes when the wind blows.

Crossing the sand road will take you to Bentenjima. There's nothing special there, but it's a pleasant place surrounded by the sea.
It's only a 5-minute drive from Tonosho Port, and there is free parking available.

Took Olive bus no. 6 here. As it was low tide, we could walk on the road or rather the beach. We walked till the end where we saw past visitors had hang blessings notes on the branches of the tree. It was a nice stroll on the beach. The day was cloudy and windy , it was really nice to have the windy feeling. After that we headed to Yumi Katsura Lover's Sanctuary where we could ring the bell and looked down on Angel road and the sea.

We were there during a Japanese Festival. Highlight was the fireworks by the road at night. Simply magical.

On our free “rental” bikes from our ryokan we explored Tonosho on a gloriously sunny autumn day.
First stop was Angel Road.
This is a group of three small islands just offshore connected to the land by a long sandbar, which floods at high tide. Local tradition has it that Angel Road is for lovers and if you walk out the sandbar to the islands holding hands with someone you love, your wishes will come true. We decided to take a look see.
It was tricky finding the turn-off from the main road. By biking along a wide sidewalk, we finally found the access to the place tucked back in.
We found that the sandbar would be walkable if we wanted to doff shoes and wade for ten feet – there was only a tiny little bit of the bar that presently had skim of water over it. We decided to give it a pass since we didn’t have much time. We left it to the gang of wet-suited jet-skiers who had parked just beyond the splash of water and were showing off by walking on the side we couldn’t reach. Little kids were running back and forth through the water that surged across the sand bar with each wave.
We saw a high point, up atop a column of rock, that would allow for a better view than the ground level position from which we had been photographing. We had to retreat to the beginning of the sandbar to find a stairway up. The stairway is made up of monstrously irregular stone steps, but we got up anyway. We took some photos from there, including one of us going around the barrier onto the very edge of the ridge - a dangerous and not recommended move - just for a good photo. We decided we had enough so we retreated to the parking lot, retrieved our bikes and moved on.

Come in the afternoon, you can take a good photo at the observatory with the bell as the sun will shine from the right way.

Nice walk on the sands. Parking lot is nearby and free. Kids played with the sands. So peaceful and calm sea.
