Shiretoko Goko(5 Lakes) is now the highlight of sightseeing in Shiretoko Peninsula. We received a lecture about what we should do if we meet with a bear before hiking this place. I was happy that I didn't see any bears. The weather was nice, cool,...More

I had a guided tour round the five lakes. I do recommend having a guided tour as you will miss a lot if you walk all the way on your own. My guide, Suganuma San, knows a lot about the lakes and he is fun....More

we were lucky with the weather so the views were very good. Very nice walk that allows great view all the time. Large car park, visitor centre etc

Was lucky and saw a bear in the distance; nice nature trail ... and fine just doing the free hike; although you pay 500 for the parking.

Our guide, Satoru Wakatsuki was incredible, he greatly showed us the wonders of the site and despite the fact that he didn't speak english fluently, he could be understood very well. It was a 3 hour long tour which took us into the preserved forest...More

Might as well get the guided tour since it’s not a place you can visit often if you are from far away places. The visitors centre has food, etc

Nice boardwalk out to the lake with lovely mountain views. Pleasant 20 minute stroll each way. Dissapointingly 500 yen to park but I suppose they have to upkeep the boardwalk.

Worth a visit is the Shiretoko Five lakes. It has a broad walk to take in the sights and try bet spotting. At the end of the broad walk, a view of the Shiretoko mountain range greets you. Absolutely stunning. You can go for a...More

We visited in May, and were on our way to the airport, so we didn't have time to do the guided walk. After an all-too-brief walk around the Visitor Centre, we did walk the whole length of the elevated walkway. We didn't see any bears,...More

I suspect that late October would be best. However, I will ask a local and get back to you.

I believe you have already been there. I absolutely don’t recommend a tour. The tour costs 5000¥ as far as I read here on TripAdvisor. The entrance fee in August 2018 costs 260¥ pP. The 3km can be easily done in 45-60 min... More
