A beautiful spot to visit in Nozawaonsen. I visited several times during my week there and only ever saw one or two other people. I was hoping to see some locals cooking there but missed out on that. There’s not really anything to do there...More

This onsen area is very close to the central village and temple area. Area is reserved for local villagers. Local shops sell food items and some souvenirs. This is a must see if visiting Nozawa.

If you're coming to Nozawa Onsen then you need to take time out to visit this quintessentially Japanese village with it's quaint market lined street, shrine and onsen for villagers only. You can see the steam rising from the onsen's and apparently the locals cook...More

Came though here one night during our stay in Nozawa Onsen, observed the villagers boiling their dinner in the public hot spring, chatting away or quietly drinking a beer.

Ogama sping is the onsen with the hottest water reaching 90 C. In winter, the steam rising from boiling hot spring gives the place a somewhat otherworldly beauty. The onsen is used by the village to boil eggs and vegetables. While tourists can not cook...More
