About
"This is a day-trip facility at Hakuba Happo Onsen. It features only open-air baths, and there are no indoor baths available. Located closest to the source in the mountains, this hot spring allows you to bathe while listening to the flow of the river. With one of Japan's finest alkaline spring qualities, it's a popular choice among customers after mountain climbing. Currently, it operates exclusively during the summer."

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Obinata Onsen is nice real onsen close to Hakubata. It features one ”pool” with natural water at around 40c (it is little bit cooler in the far end).

They provide towels and slippers. Drinks available from vending machines.

We were told tha snow monkeys visit onsen now and then

We booked the 7.30pm session through the Happo information Centre, we would have rathered the earlier 5.30pm however it it was booked out. We were picked up at our hotel on time by a Japanese driver (no english). He played us an English speaking video on what to expect and where everything is located at the onsen. Once we arrived we got changed and entered the onsen. We went during mid March where the weather was a bit warmer but luckily it had snowed the previous two days. The onsen is very hot and it's not adjustable so don't complain when you can't handle the heat! We found ourselves sitting half out of the onsen for the hour as it was too hot to be fully in. It was quite relaxing but as it was night time there wasn't much of a view. Private onsen allows you to remain clothed and is recommended for those with visible tattoos. We were allowed one drink in the onsen which could be purchased at the vending machine at the front. Once we were finished we got changed, paid our fees and were taken back to our hotel.

I visited the Onsen in March 2014. As part of the fee i was picked up from my Hotel and driven to the Onsen. The fee was the same for multiple people and offered bathing items if you preferred. Lovely outside onsen surrounded by the forest and covered in snow! They also have a vending machine.

The allocated time is an hour, which was a little long for me.
