    Diamond in the rough
Our 4yr old raced around, loving seeing all the animals, whilst she was more taking by playing pirates (which is brilliant). The talks offered regularly and really informative. A lovely small feel, but plenty to do to kill a few hours. We did had a drink in the cafe, decided against food as it wasn’t quite what we were feeling think burger/hot dog chips ect. The zoo was brilliant and definitely a gem to explore. A bit of a diamond in the rough, but that what gives it the unique feel

    Small, friendly & fun.
This was a great day out. We expected it to be quite small, and it was, but we still spent the whole day here with plenty to see & do. Staff were all extremely friendly which added to the overall positive feel. Would definitely recommend for a fun, interesting day out.

Small well run Zoo, with Amazing amimals.
Wonderful visit to this small well-run Zoo, loads to do & see, our favorites was the otters at feeding time singing for their supper !!, a sight you have to see to be believed. Also the first time I heard a proper talking parrot, so clever. Also the Racoons put on a display for acrobatics for us , and the Meerkats baby’s on their first time out of the burrow was amazing. We listened to a few talks at various feeding times, and the lad giving the talks was very information & funny. It was a bit of a wet day on our visit, but there was a lot inside to do & see. And the café was serving burgers & hot dogs , actually very good !!

    A wonderful, well-kept little zoo
What a great value day out! One of our party (of adults) doesn't like zoos, but as Tropiquaria does lots of conversation work, she agreed to visit. The main building is an old art deco listed building, so it does look quite run down from the outside, because there's not much you can do to change or improve a listed building. Inside, you wouldn't know - it's modern and airy. There is a wonderful variety of animals at the zoo; from fish and reptiles, to birds and mammals. Every single animal we saw looked very happy and extremely healthy. The enclosures were all spacious and clean, with excellent enrichment facilities. The staff were friendly, helpful, polite and professional. The keeper talks were informative and interesting; it was nice to hear about the individual animals, especially those who had been rescued from the pet trade, etc. The cafe was good value, with big portions. It's mostly just things like burgers and chips, etc, but you are very welcome to bring your own food to the zoo and there are lots of picnic tables to use. We didn't have any children in our group, but there are excellent play facilities, with two massive pirate ships outside, a big play castle inside, and lots of space to run around by the ships. The play castle is in the cafe, so it does get extremely noisy in there - something to bear in mind if you aren't keen on kids! As of August 2023, an adult ticket costs £13. We spent three and a half hours at the zoo, and all really enjoyed the time we spent there. It was lovely to see some animals that you don't often get to see in real life, like axolotl and raccoon dogs. I can definitely recommend a visit to Tropiquaria, for any kind of group or family.

    Excellent
Wow, spent ages looking at the fish, otters and reptiles. Passionate keepers and so knowledgeable. Really responsible price to get in. Think they do excellent under testing times. Fun place for kiddies and adults alike.

    Great little place
What a great little place. Stopped on our way home and so glad we did. Lots of animals to see and places for the kids to play. The cafe and entrance prices are reasonable and the keepers are clearly passionate about their animals. Definitely recommend

    Enjoyable morning out
Had a lovely afternoon with the kids. Staff were all friendly and the keep talk we watched was informative and interesting. Lots of different animals to see and all looked well cared for. The play areas were very much enjoyed by the kids, and I loved the old bbc building that the attraction is housed in (I wish we could have seen more of the building, I'd love a good look around!).

    Amazing hidden gem
This place is great!! As we pulled up we did have questions but once inside it changed our mind. It’s so good! Hidden gem! We visited with our children & friends and the children loved it. And we did. Great (if not random) selection of animals but the staff are very knowledgable and the animals all seemed happy! Great size and easy to get about too. We saw the Otters & Servan beinf fed which was cool. Food was good/average but great value for money and the indoor kids play bit was a huge hit. As was the pirate ship play area outdoors. Would Defs visit again if in the area. 10/10

    Zoo trip with the family
We visited Tropiquaria yesterday morning as a family and really enjoyed it. Its such a sweet little zoo and they do alot of work towards animal conservation. The staff were helpful and friendly. We ate in the zoo cafe. Everything was really nice and clean. This is our third visit to the zoo. Would definitely visit again.

I dont understand the negative reviews.
We visited on a cold, wet day in May and really enjoyed it.
The old building has an interesting history and it's a great use of it.
There are some amazing birds, fish and animals that you can get up close to and were lovely to see.
If you enjoy nature and wildlife, it's worth a visit. It's great to see local businesses sponsoring enclosures so they can be improved and made larger.
Please pay it a visit as these smaller places really need your help.

The play areas alone are worth the price entry but the animals are all quality where you can really get up close and personal with them.
They are close so you can watch them and they like seeing you there. The otters were a personal favourite as they sang, and the range of raccoons was a delight, let alone the peacocks that often showed your there mating call. And of course, you can’t forget the aquarium underground that has some amazing tanks that each is a world of its own. We even managed to see all the nocturnal animals which is rare in zoos.

Myself, my sister, my son and my niece visited Tropiquaria Zoo on the way back home after our holiday to Butlins on Friday 19th April 2024. To say we were highly disappointed is an understatement. Upon entering the car-park, the building looks very outdated on the outside, however, the owner(who was very friendly) did fill us in on the history on the building and that it used to be a BBC radio station back in the 30’s. The gift shop is small, but filled with a number of soft toys, sweets, ice-creams and other gifts, which was fine. However, I’d probably say the gift shop was the best bit of the overall place. Upon entering the actual zoo part, it is very unappealing and is very dull looking. I understand that it is a graded building, but a lick of paint wouldn’t go amiss. The variety of animals at the zoo was rather disappointing and it seemed to be loads of the same species of animal just spread around. We were also very wary of the peacocks strutting around freely and felt quite threatened by them, especially as one of them was following our every move which in turn meant that we couldn’t look at some of the other animals in that particular area. My biggest issue was the location of the aquarium, which was down two flights of stairs which for families who require pram/wheelchair access is not very accessible at all and as far as I’m aware, they do not have an alternative entrance for said pram/wheelchair users. We did not stay for food but the cafe facilities looked okay, but it was very dark in there and the toilets were adequate. The children’s play areas also looked very dull and appealing. We arrived at 10:30am and had left by 11:35am. Safe to say that we would not return again and would not recommend to others either.

First time at Tropiquaria but unfortunately it was a little bit underwhelming.

The park is a lot smaller than expected and there isn’t that many animals to see, we managed to get around the whole place including eat lunch and play on playgrounds within 2 hours. It’s definitely not a full day out.

The addition of the outdoor and indoor play areas are great though, the kids loved them.

Animals appear well looked after, despite some enclosures seeming on the small side but that’s just most animals parks for you. The talk for the otters was engaging and amusing!

A good half a day out if you’re on holiday nearby.

This is a great place for young famiies. It's not a big attraction, however, they do pack a lot of different exhibits in. OK for a rainy day, you are best going on a sunny day to enjoy all the outside fun.

Tropiquaria Zoo was definitely worth the visit just for the exceptionally cute otters, and free roaming peacocks! (Who have a lot of attitude!) All of their animals were hugely entertaining, and were very well cared for in appropriately sized enclosures. The staff were friendly, and exceeded in customer service. There were lots of optional talks throughout the day, which were full of fascinating facts.

The only unfortunate thing was that the cheese on our cheesy chips wasn’t melted :( 🍟 (And, the peacocks will definitely steal your chips!)

The prices for food and gift shop items seemed reasonable enough, too.

We enjoying a week in Doniford bay so we classed in here one damp afternoon and was pleased to see such improvements have been made since our last visit quite a few years ago.

Lots to see and clearly labelled however the heavens opened when we ventured outside so we did not really see all the outside displays or get to use the huge play area.

Large indoor cafe area with a play area inside as well with lots of seating.
The otter enclosure is outside the entrance and are very funny.

Really enjoyed it and would return on a drier day.

I love this zoo, especially the two Kinkajous Kiki and Kai. Also, my love goes out to Harvey, Izzy and Lulu the adorable Pyrenean mountain dogs... oh, and all the other animals as well!
