About

This small zoo specializes in “local” animals, ie animals adapted to the alpin environment. Therefore, do not expect to find elephants or monkeys, but rather foxes, wolves and even bears.

The places for the animals are rather good, spacious, very natural (no concrete!) and varied.

The animals are very close, you can give food to nearly all herbivores (adapted food provided at entrance), and you can even go meet and cuddle the goats !

All in all, a nice experience, different from the usual, bigger zoos. The whole experience would last 1.5 hour, maybe more if your small children are captivated.

You can Picknick directly into the zoo, near to the animals.

We did not try the pool nor the restaurant, so I cannot comment on those.

Stopped by for a visit as we were in the area. Not a lot of animals to be seen (some enclosures empty). Not worth the 42 chf we spent for a family of four.

Since the weather was so warm in the vslley we decided to visit. There are car parks which can fill rapidly but there is additional parking just up the road on the right on gravel.
As stated its a rock pool with plenty of space to spread out. Usual restaurant and kiosk. Life guard present. Despite many people not so many in the water so thats fine. The zoo is ok, enclosures not so small, of course could be bigger we saw bears, wolves, deer, boar, steinbock etc. The feline community weren’t visible but thats their choice. Zoos are tricky, but is a good way to appreciate the animals.....

The lac (actually a big natural swimming pool) is magnificent. However too many people and the entrance was blocked, but this allowed us to visit the zoo, which was a nice walk and the kids liked it.
The restaurant is .. just a restaurant ... difficult to find a place to sit.

Swimming in the the natural pool was an magnificent experience.

What a disappointment! The animals are kept in small and badly maintained spaces; it looks like a zoo from one century ago. We all felt so sad and counting the minutes to leave the place. The road to the place, extremely scenic, is the only thing with the excursion.

In Switzerland it is seldom to find a pure water pool built or settled into natural rocks. In rivers you can, but in a domesticated environment with natural care, it is less frequent, or impossible. One can even asks herself or himself why: it is cheaper and simpler. In Les Marécottes the owner family didi it and it is pire environmental magic. See how families enjoy it. And come los enjoy it. A big natural surprise, an island of charm a lacunal of fresh and cool atmosphere in Summertime. Excellent restaurant also. Cool prices.

Bear in mind that Switzerland in a tiny country and likewise most things are smaller too. Like this little zoo up in the mountain. It's very small, you can cover the whole area in 30 minutes. It's ideal for little children.
The area has a swimming pool as well but it's not heated. Perfect on a really hot day.
There is a cafe/restaurant and a kiosk. Free parking. A very beautiful area to visit in summer.

We really enjoyed our afternoon in les Marécottes. This is an ideal getaway for the day; be sure to make use of the 70 m long heated pool, which is a natural swimming hole surrounded by steep rocks and an evergreen forest. There is a small children's swimming area in the pool, but then it gets deep very quickly. However, with adult supervision, children can swim the length of the pool. There is a small grassy area to sit on, as well as some flat spots on the rocks around the pool. The restaurant is right up next to the pool, so much that you could have your coffee and watch the kids swim. They serve pizza non-stop, ice cream, and a few other items. Full bar.

The zoo right next to the pool has plenty to see, and is a simply a nice walk through a forested area (e.g. raccoons, wolves, bears, goats, mountain goats, owls, reindeer, sheep, etc.).

Entry fee is 18 CHF/adult, includes the pool and zoo. 9 chf if just for pool or for zoo. Children under 5 are free. While it is pricey, both facilities are open until sundown (advertising as late as 23h00).

Les Marécottes is the base for a small ski station, so there is also a gondola that can be taken from the town if you wish to do some hiking a bit higher up. All in all, a lovely little getaway for the afternoon, just 20 minute drive from Martigny.

I live in Martigny and i visited the piscine and Zoo in Marecottes. The piscine or swimming pool is ok but the zoo is small and the animal in it if you are a good trekker you can find on any mountain in Switzerland if you pay attention.
