The interesting thing about Gugelkirche is the fact, that the foundation of the church is partly the huge rock formation on one side of it. It looks spectacular when you approach the church coming from Giechburg. It's a nice hike across meadows and through a forest. The the church they do have a small beer garden in case you need some refreshment. And it's actually and easy hike for kids!!

Hike to Gugel from the Giechburg and back, park the car at the carpark below the castle and turn left into the way with the stones depicting Jesus resurrection. Great way to get rid of the food you ate before down in Schesslitz.

Very nice hike destination from Geichburg Castle and back thru meadows. This church traces its origin back to 1270's built on the rock. It once was a castle which was destroyed several times, but restored to church in 1600's. This is a pilgrimage church. There's a small shop to purchase food and drinks on premise. You can also drive to this location to hike over to the castle and back. On a nice day, this is a great spot for hiking. There are Stations of the Cross placed along the way. Geichburg Castle houses a great restaurant which serves very good Franconian dishes with very reasonable price. You'll enjoy it.
