Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An interesting villa, but the highlight of the visit was the nymphaeum situated in the grounds.
A series of artificial grottos, all decorated in shells and stones, with further rooms decorated floors, walls and ceilings in fantastic pebble mosaics - one can only wonder at the artistry and man hours necessary to create this extravagance.
Be prepared to be surprised by the complexity of the water features which have been restored to their original working order.
An enthusiastic, interesting guide made this visit quite memorable.
Complete your visit by wandering through the grounds or the public park area where many of the 50 odd varieties of trees and shrubs are quite rare - some such as the Ginkgo Biloba were planted here in the mid 1800’s.

This is a fascinating place to visit, we were part of a small group of 15 people and we
had a excellent guide. The original palace was started about 1585 but the Grotto was built between 16th and 18th centuries.
The surprise water features have been restored fairly recently. We thought they were fantastic. There are also lovely gardens.

If you're having a holiday in Lombardy in the period from May to October, the Villa and particularly its Ninfeo, a sort of artificial grotto, rich with stone mosaics, statues and awesome water tricks, is worth a visit. Kids can also enjoy the visit. The tour I did was long, more than two hours, but the kids had fun with the water surprises in the Ninfeo. It's also very interesting for adults, thanks to the passion of the voluntary guides who accompany you on the visit. I don't know if they do the tour in English though, call or check on the site. You can get quite wet, so go with nice warm weather. There's no café in the villa, I'd suggest having an aperitivo before getting in.

We only found this by accident, we were looking for something to fill a few hours and being quite close gave it a go.
First off an English speaking guide as found much to our appreciation, the group was only made up of five so it was a surprise when we got our own guide. Our guide informative and entertaining throughout the tour of the quite amazing buildings and gardens.
Being such a hot day we appreciated the cold showers and surprise jets of water springing from every nook and cranny of the gardens and buildings, I am sure the staff enjoy targeting a victim or two :)
A hidden gem which we would like to visit again some time, hidden away but well worth a visit.

The Villa was a beautiful surprise for us with the ninfeo and its water games. Visconte Litta was a creative, and playful man and the atmosphere inside and outside the Villa seemed so dreamy that made us feel like we were on holiday.
The touristic guide was professional and engaging.

The original glamour is plain to see, but a poor attempt at restoration. We were made welcome, and had a guide to ourselves for just 4 euros each (I think we got lucky), but I wouldn't go back. We didn't visit the nymphaeum or the water games, which I suspect are the piece de resistance of the place. We may have scored higher had we visited those.

The hidden beauty of the Villa Litta in Lainate was breathtaking. The picturesque garden made us feel like to romantic lovers in a movie, strolling along the gorgeous grass banks surrounded by breathtaking sculptures and beautiful fountains. They even have a greenhouse where exquisite specialty flowers are grown.
If you're looking for something to do while in Lainate area, this is a beautiful walk from the IBIS Hotel (which is what we did)
