We were the only people here at one point and it was tranquil. You enter at the higher level and descend to the lower portion - making it quite a trek for those not good on their feet. Once down tough there are amazingly well...More

How the leisured class spent their holidays. A really interesting site, with some mosaics and frescoes still intact. Highlight is the dome, which predates the Pantheon in Rome. Well worth a visit -- though it gets extremely hot in the sun.

Put on your walking shoes and walk all the way down into the baths. It is quiet and beautiful. I was alone in the domed bath of Mercury. I has a long echo. This is so worthwhile. We went with a private driver which made...More

This is a good place to visit on a nice day - not so good if it is raining. It is a large site, but fascinating with large villas, and with some Roman concrete domed roofs (like the Pantheon in Rome, though on a smaller...More

Imagine a well preserved, concise Pompeii with no crowds. The forums, baths and town are immensely accessible and give a feeling of touching as opposed to just viewing the Romans in their daily life. Recently excavated we were surprised to see modern buildings on the...More
