Went to a corporate event, welcome drinks, a guided tour round the American Air Museum. The guides certainly knew their history. Meal at the workshop was really good and catered for my gluten and dairy allergies.
This is part of teh IWM Duxford site, dedicated to american planes. See how massive a B52 is when you get up close! the wingspan takes up the whole width of the building, it feels like the building was built around the plane.

In my opinion you could do both. The American Museum could be visited in 2 hours, with the rest of your time devoted to the other museums/attractions. The advantage is there are cafes/toilets at both sites. I personally would also look at the restoration hangars where you can see the aircraft being serviced, restored. A great day out, you will enjoy it.
