It is amazing that this is so near to the town centre, just a short walk takes you back in time to a completely different era and culture. Really worth a visit and time well spent as we left feeling very relaxed and calm; not...More

This has to be the pagoda seen by more tourists above others; being in the middle of a shrine/temple and shopping district of Tokyo. It is a very attractive one on top of where it is located.

The pagoda is very beautiful but no one is allowed to go inside. You're able to see it from within the Senso-Ji Temple and from the observation deck of the Asakusa Information Center.

This towering pagoda dominates the plaza with the gate and shrine. The highly decorated tiers tower above the plaza. There is a small garden to the north the the pagoda that makes for interesting pictures.

Strangely, access to the pagoda is only possible within the grounds of Ueno zoo. The rest of the temple complex seems to be outside the grounds in the park. Still, it's a nice looking pagoda and well worth a look.

Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
