On a week-long visit to Tokyo and came here specifically to visit the Pushkin museum exhibit. Apart from that, the other exhibits seemed inaccessible. Hard to figure out if there is a permanent collection. Nevertheless, I went to the Muse Restaurant for lunch and thoroughly...More

Very high quality works by the famous (Gauguin, Cezanne, Renoir, Sisley, Derain) and the not so famous (Robert), including three or four excellent Monets. I had only one hour for the sixty paintings including the decent 35 minute audioguide and I could have enjoyed another...More

Carefully curated, comprehensive (almost too much so), informative. The light, colour and subject matters of the Breughel dynasty masters are more than refreshing. Before the era of cameras, their works capture history faithfully, and yet elevate artistically. Out of place in Japan, but like other...More

I went with my elementary school kids. It was really crowded but my kids enjoyed more than I did. The machine for English explanation of the painting was perfect. Looking forward to the next exhibition. No credit card and no ATM around. I had to...More

This is my favorite museum in Tokyo. They have different exhibit every now and then. It's a nice place to get away for a few hours.

Though the 40 minute wait to see this exhibit was a bit tiresome, the Van Gogh paintings, drawings and book illustrations were set off brilliantly by Japanese u-kiyoe and Japonisme art that responded to and/or inspired Van Gogh. The story of his art in Japan...More

We came for the Van Gogh exhibit. Nicely curated. Appreciate that they spread the exhibit over all three floors so that people actually went through the whole exhibit. Clearly see Van Gogh's fascination with Japan even though he himself ever visited here. When you pay...More

So on our last morning in Tokyo we strolled to the Park and enjoyed a wonderful VanGogh Exhibit, then went into the lower area to another, Modern Realism, Boy what a nice exhibit. Just check this place out, especially if you're museum people. Cheers, Salida1048

Since the museum is far too big and too crowdie to see the entire collection in one day I always go there just to visit a part or a special event. This time (November 2017) I went for the "Van Gogh in Japan" exhibition. Being...More

Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old
Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa.
Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit
a variety of different museums and galleries. At
Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the
grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed
alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at
the end of the year, when many people go on shopping
