I absolutely loved going to this temple. The walk from the train station to the temple took about 8-10 mins. The walk was an interesting sight to see due to the different style buildings. The temple is surrounded by a stone wall and bamboo forest...More

Gotokuji area is quite and has few shops and restaurantes. The temple is nice, not as good as Kyoto Temple. But Gotokuji surrounds are also worth a visit. Just one thing people: don’t touch the cats when you doing your modelling photos. It’s quite disrespectful.

The area is very picturesque and peaceful and the area with all the cats is pretty awesome to see too. Surprisingly, there aren't too many people walking around here so it's a great little getaway from the crowded city. I'd highly recommend exploring not just...More

I really enjoyed this small little community in Gotukuji and not just the temple, spend a little time wandering the nice cafes nearby to the train station.

Gotokuji Temple and Shoinjinja Shrine were surprisingly peaceful being so close to the centre of Tokyo. All the sites were fascinating and the history and background of each one immersed me more into Japanese culture compared to the popular Tokyo tourist spots I’ve visited. In...More

We love the history of this temple, those cat figurines are the prayers/wishes that has been granted already. Highly recommended and a must visit!

I hope it would not be too late to answer your question. Taking a train to Gotokuji Temple is easier than taking a tram. You take a local or semi-express train of the Odakyu Line from Shinjuku Station and get off at Gotokuji... More
