In Japan there are many Temples and this one is nice to visit but if you have been in others before so its not "must" they all seems alike exept some that are unique as the golden temple in Kyoto and some others.

It takes only 5 minutes on foot from Tsukishima station but I took the long way crossing Tsukuda Bridge from Saint Lucas Hospital area to see site of Tsukuba ferry whch stopped it's operation in 1964 when the Last Tokyo Olympics was held. Torii gate there has ceramic name plate which is rare and hand washing place has wood carvings showing scene of Tsukuba ferry. Tokugawa Ieyasu, 1st Tokugawa Shogun came to Edo(former name of Tokyo)
with Fishermen from Tsukuda Osaka to fish here and they named this area as Tsukudajima(Tsukuba island) after their hometown. Tsukudani(soy sauce flavored fish and shellfish preserves) was first made here.

The Sumiyoshi Shrine is located in the Tsukuda area, which is about ten minutes by city bus from Tokyo station. You can get there by taking the green city bus from the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station, just take either of the buses which stop at Tsukishima station, the maps at the bus stops will show you in English and Japanese were the buses stop. Bus fare is 210 yen per person.
Get off the bus at the Tsukuda stop, which is just after the bus crosses the Chuo bridge, a beautiful suspension bridge which links the islands of Tsukuda and Tsukishima to the old mainland of Tokyo. After you cross the street, walk back toward the bridge, and turn left, so the Sumida river is on your right side. There is a scenic walkway along the river, follow it until you reach the light house, then cross the canal via the small bridge. As soon as you cross the bridge, you will see an old copper-covered "tori" gate, this is the entrance to the shrine.
The shrine is small, but scenic, the main attractions for the area are not the shrine, but the small fishing port located next to it, and the old houses and shops in the area. If you leave via the exit on the far end, you can cross a beautiful little bridge with red rails, turn right after you cross the bridge, and follow the canal. There are numerous places worthy of taking photos along the way.
When you reach the play ground and highway, cross under the highway and turn left, and follow this road until you get to McDonald's, the turn right. This is the main street through Tsukishima "Moon Island", and it has a number of traditional shops and restaurants. The signature dish of Tsukishima is monja-yaki, which you prepare yourself at your table, which has a cooking surface like at a tepanyaki restaurant. Most of the restaurants in Tsukishima are monja restaurants, the best one in my experience is called "Ataru", which is one of the last restaurants on the main street, on the McDonald's end.
The Sumiyoshi Shrine and Tsukishima are a great place to spend a couple of hours, and you can easily get around on foot.

Great and very small shrine near Kachidoki. This is a very low key shrine near the Sumida River and a very nice park. If you're in the area, this is worth a visit.

The Sumiyoshi Shrine is located on the Tsukudajima islet near the Tsukishima subway station on the Oedo line. The islet itself is quite interesting as they have fishing boats parked there. The shrine itself is small but also quite old. There are several buildings around a small courtyard with the usual water trough for washing hands, main temple. They also have 2 Mikoshi on display. One is quite new and one is very old. However the old one is so well preserved that it looks almost the same as the new one.

Though most of the original complex was destroyed in WWII (as is the case with much of Osaka's temples), this complex dates back to the 3rd century. The bridges highlight the area and it is a nice peaceful place to visit and enjoy. (Just a few blocks from the Sumiyoshi subway line)
