This isn't a review for Barceloneta beach but for Bogatell, just a 15/20 minutes walk up the coast from Barceloneta. While Barceloneta is a very popular tourist beach and is easily accessible, it is rather dirty and busy with thieves. If you walk up past the casino heading east then you will find Bogatell, it's clean, easily accessible, has plenty of places to buy drink and food and also is bereft of thieves. It is more popular with the locals so it is safer and a bit less rowdy than Barceloneta, the only negative point is that if you are planning on settling on the concrete steps on the west end of the beach, it is where the youths tend to reside and also smells like urine occasionally.
