Beautiful village that has been redeveloped and which in just a few years has become one of the most important attractions in the area. Walking in the alleys, you can find shops where you can buy handmade artisan products. The works continue and the village will certainly become more and more beautiful.

Beautiful village on the slopes of Gran Sasso. Every corner looks like a postcard. Walking through the alleys you can meet artisan shops and taste local products. A beautiful half-day walk.

Authentic medieval village in the mountains near Campo Imperatore. Beautiful views. A warren of streets and alleys, very photogenic. There are some bars and restaurants. Also albergo diffuso: rooms in houses scattered around the village, with a central cantina. There is still a lot of restoration, and construction cranes temporarily mar the skyline. Parking on the outskirts of the village.

A really nice village with some shops selling artisanal products: you can breathe an air of times gone by...
When I was there there were few people and I enjoyed the visit.
I recommend shoes that are not smooth underneath otherwise you will slip on the pebbles...

This place is for me the nicest in Abruzzo. Considered on the list of the Borghi Più beli d’Italia.
You will find that they are still fixing some buildings after the earthquake of 2009 and all the area aswell.
But after the years has the same personality I felt thirty years ago when I went there for the first time.
Nowadays with a lot of good options for dinner a couple of bars.
Located up in the mountains with and fantastic tower that you can visit inside.
Silent, profound, embrassing, leaving you the sensation the the time doesn’t pass, that everything stays stand still…
A sensation that is not easy to feel when you travel.
This medioevo places around Abruzzo-Aquila area are incredible! Unforgettable.

At least once a year we spend a weekend in this beautiful village very close to Calascio and its Rocca and also to the beautiful Campo Imperatore.
Beautiful Piazza Medici, the door and also all the alleys.
The tower is again open to the public and can be visited with Guide.
In my opinion a view is a must : beautiful view and detailed explanations!!!
Characteristic are the small shops present, both handicrafts and food products, typical of the territory.
Osterias and restaurants are not lacking (Reservation is always preferable).
Highly Recommendation 🔝

This is a really nice village, one of the most beautiful in Abruzzo. It is small but walking quietly is worth a half day. Too bad for the tower that can be visited, but only at every hour... many tourists have given up...
There are many clubs and popular hotels. There is no shortage of craft shops.

I had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful village in the company of my wife, after a first part of the day spent in the Gran Sasso plateau.
Santo Stefano di Sessanio is really a nice village, with all stone houses, narrow alleys and really interesting little views.
Very nice walking through the streets of the village, a pleasant surprise.
Recommendation a visit, especially in combination with other neighboring locations or after an interesting road trip on the state road 17bis

With some friends I visited this little
village of Abruzzo at 1250 meters above sea level
Very pretty village all gathered around its Medici tower
Tower that was rearranged after L'Aquila earthquake
The village consists of all ancient houses attached to each other
Many have been redeveloped into small shops selling
objects and local food products from colored artisan wool based on natural products, pecorino cheese and various derived products
processing of local pigs.
Country kept very well especially clean
with lands and alleys full of flowers compliments to the inhabitants

Santo Stefano Di Sessanio is a Medieval clifftop village dating back to the time of the Romans. It has cobbled, quirky streets, arches, tiny passages and adorable shops (people’s front rooms really). It is a world apart from any city or town in the modern world and it whisks you away to a time before TV, the internet and fast food.
Don’t bother coming if you want it all and you want it now. Come if you want to escape the rat race. You won’t regret it. Heels are not of any use to you here. Flat, strong walking shoes or boots required.

Salve, in inverno presumo ci sia neve... In che periodo mi consigliate di venire? Febbraio, marzo...?
Written 27 November 2019
Senza ombra di dubbio il miglior periodo è giugno e luglio, nei mesi precedenti essendo un paese di montagna, puo' incappare a pioggie improvvise. Consiglio i mesi scritti.

Is a local guide available? Is this a community now with shops, a church, etc.?
Written 27 October 2018
We were there in May and there were no guides that I knew of. The village is very small, but absolutely charming. There is a church in the village, however I don't believe they have services. It was closed the days we were there. There is an incredible restaurant called L' Elisir del Poeta. It only seats about 10 people so be sure to make a reservation.

Would like to know if there’s enough to see and do for 3 days...we don’t hike. Is walking challenging? Is local guide available for a few hours one day? Is this a community similar to Matera?
Written 26 October 2018
Three days is over kill without hiking. One day would
