It would be perfectly possible to visit Quimperle without discovering this place, hidden as it is behind the gendarmerie. A quick look on Google maps is a giveaway, as the circular roof is readily apparent. This historic round church is still in use today. It...More

We visited the Abbaye Ste Croix whilst walking around the small town of Quimperle. I would recommed a visit to this church if you are in the town anyway. There is interesting architecture to be viewed and the unusual split level means you can easily...More

According to tradition, this unusual church was built in the 11th century for an abbey of Benedictine monks. L'Abbeye Sainte-Croix (the abbey church of the Holy Cross) has a circular plan with a porch on one side and three semi-circular apses around the main wall....More

I know i'm not really for the target market for this kind of place. However it was free and only took me 10 minutes to look around, so worth the diversion. But there are lots more interesting architectures to see just from walking around the...More

Lovely, simple abbey church: not a tourist attraction, but a great example of the kind of abbey of which there are thousands in France

Tucked away in Quimperle which is a quiet small town about 10 miles south of Quimper, is one of the most extraordinary churches I have ever visited. The church is based on an even cross and there are altars in three of the four corners,...More

Old, multilevel, interesting church/cathedral. Raised central alter above crypt. Different views from many parts of the interior. Quite different from the typical Gothic structure.

Rather a gem in the middle of a beautiful area. We have visited many churches in the last few weeks and my wife reckoned this the most interesting. Not large but it has a fascinating history and a lovely small crypt
